Tension

Well, the world of work is calling me back again. I have another interview, in ohh, about an hour and a half, and I am sitting here sweating and worrying. Great isnt it? I have not been on a real interview in almost 5 years, so I just have to not allow myself to just say, um I dont know how I would handle that. Though really I am being silly, I may walk in and hate the job, or the salary, or realize that what they want me to do is way over my head. Though, as everyone seems to want to say, its good practice. Pardon me while I roll my eyes...

Finding Neverland

Ohhh, what a great movie that was. It made it onto my amended last minute Christmas List. Now, who could go wrong with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet and beautiful words and photography. 3 and 1/2 stars out of 4!!!

Holiday Complaints

-22 degrees at noon??? um now that is much too cold, since I am not living in blasted Alaska!
-Christmas Cards that are pictures of your children. Now if you are blood, that maybe the only picture we get for the year so its nice, but I know FW and I both feel bad throwing pictures out of friends children, yet, we cant keep them forever can we?
-Fruitcake that feels like it could be used in a weight room
-Trying to figure out what to get for people when they do not even give one a list!

Grey City

Well, the city has this pall cast over it over a football game. Now mind you, this is Philadelphia and we are talking about the Eagles, but it is still something that I, as an outsider, really need to get used too. I am rooting for the Eagles, do not get me wrong, but I am beginning to grow sick and tired of the way the city seems to cover for Donovan McNabb. He seems like he can never do anything wrong, yet he often does. I have been saying for a long time that the secondary of the Eagles is suspect at best. Lito is overrated, and B-Dawg, while a leader and someone that really lays a hit on someone, can not cover a lick anymore. But, this loss falls at McNabb's feet, as many of the losses do. And if I have to seem him come up with some injury when his team has found a way to lose, in an effort to either look tougher or to have some sort of cover story, I am going to spit nails!

a pleasant surprise

So, I was all set to sit down and start a moaning about the DMV of Pennsylvania, because of past experiences in NJ, you just had to know that it was going to be a disaster. Instead, it was an easy trip. They have this ticker system, so you are able to sit there with your book, laptop, ipod, no lines. Then, even though due to the Patriot act you need to pretty much bring your mother along to prove who you are, the actual forms were painless. Plus, you can be made an organ donor and register to vote all in the same stop. Painless, more of a pain to find my social security card and birth certificate then to actually get the license. Three ***'s

Though, two other thoughts, first, major shock that Philadelphia has more corruption, and second, it was a good plan for the Councilman, hard to be indicted when you are under medical observation. Though honestly I think it could be a major mistake, going into Syria. Well, at one point it probably was not a mistake, it would have worked out alot better if we put the Syrians on real notice after 9/11. Now to go into Syria, whether they truly assasinated the president of Lebanon or not, will just look like the angry Americans going into another muslim country. Plus the Syrians are nothing if not in with the terrorists of the world. Not a good enemy to get with, especially if you are on your own, which the United States surely would be. Hold on for a wild ride...

I believe I have found a new god, and they are named Larry, Adam, Edge and Bono.

Saw the boys for the first time ever last night at the Wachovia Center in good ole Philadelphia. It was a near perfect concert. They played everysong I wanted to hear except for Bad, but you cant have anything. The one drawback was the drunk twentysomethings dancing around right in front of us, especially during songs that really arent jump around like an idiot songs. But, that also goes to show that my friends and I are just getting a bit old, because we were 20somethings once too.

Really Bad videos episode one-Big Country-"In a Big Country"

Ok first let us forget about the lack of imagination in naming of this song. And yes, it does have a good sound to it song wise. I mean how could anyone not like a song that had the guitars sound of like they were bagpipes. The video however is still AWFUL.

Let us recollect, these fellows are supposed to be spies, chasing a mysterious package that has the bands ensignia upon it. Now, they are horrible spies, since they are easily followed by that dreadlocked chick in the body glove suit. And, what spy in there right mind scoots around the country side upon ATVs and minibikes. Yes I can just picture 007 or Magnum PI cutting a fast getaway in an ATV. Then the woman beats the 4 band members/spies up. Sean Connery had to be embarassed. Thennnnn, when they go scuba diving, it looks like a few of them could barely even swim, it took them longer to get into the scuba gear, and we cut to a shot of them swimming on top of the water, heck I think the drummer was doing the doggy paddle for petes sake.

In conclusion, great song, still one of my faves and a terrible horrible horrendous video.

Live 8

Well 1st off no we did not go, standing around with 750,000 to 1 million of my closest friends without any acess to a bathroom was not my idea of a good time. I do know though that if I did not have AOL I would have een darned ticked off. MTV/VH1 did a totally terrible job of covering the concert, cutting up and not even showing to many full performances. Now how is that going to be able to help people learn anything. From the stuff that I did see Kanye West had one of the better performances. Though he is probably going to be the next P. Diddy, i sure hope not.

2. REM has totally gone off the deep end, well at least Michael Stipe has
3.Pink Floyd still sounds as good as they did before they had whatever there issues were
4.London had the best set of performers. Any show that opens with U2 and Paul McCartney, features a performance of Bittersweet Symphony with the Singer from the Verve and Coldplay (which can be found for download with some digging hint, hint) and has a Pink Floyd reunion can overshadow anything that any other venue could put together.
5.those politicians are quite smart, the G8 summit is happening over this weekend, or at least started over this weekend, when Americans would have noooo clue what was going on.
6. They had better sell more versions of songs or a DVD of the performances!!

Back from the Abyss

Well, I have great reasons why I have not posted in a while, and if ya dont think so, then well, i like making excuses.

1. The beloved super Kittie is super no longer. She leapt off a 3 foot high table about 3 weeks ago and snapped her back leg. The only way to fix it was to amputate it, so 2000 dollars and plenty of worries later, we now have decided to change her name to Cassidy (as in Hopalong). No worries now folks, she is doing just fine now, but it was a stressful two weeks.

2. Just after Kittie was all set to get released from her home caging, the author pulled a muscle in my back. Pain shot through me along the lines of a spike being driven into my lower back. In fact I almost passed out!!! Lord that was the worst feeling I have ever felt. So I was laid up for a little over a week and high on codeine for the first few days of that. So while i ramble on like a Republican Pundit sometimes, I doubt anyone would want to read a Blujackit on acid post.

So are those excuses good enough for ya?? If not I might be able to dig something else up.

Weekend Musings

Welllll, its been a while ain't it.

Hmmm, life is still rolling along the same right now, but I have had a few things pop into my head.

Going to see Sarah McLachlan tonight in Atlantic City. I think shes playing at the Taj. I am really looking forward to it, though the trip back to Philly will not be that much fun, just cuz its late. I should probably plug some information into Mapquest, just so I figure out how to get there since I only know it from Central Jersey.

I have become addicted to Pogo. Those sick and twisted people that invented this website, its sheer brillance. I mean they attach little rewards to these games, like little carrots. They dangle in front of you and you just have to get them! Scary really. So, dear readers, please dont get addicted. And if ya do, avoid the game Backwater Bayou, since it is numbingly boring.

I was looking at the so called Ab-Lounge today and had a revelation. It might be still on the market because well, it looks like it could be some sort of sexual device. Just watch the commercial carefully next time, look at it closely and see where your imagination could take you.

The Runaway

Well, first off, yes I am glad that the woman in Georgia was found safe and sound and it has at least a happy ending for her family at least. Now, I was neutral on the fact of whether she should be charged with a crime, filing a false police report or some sort of conspiracy techinically. Ok thats first question, what the hell can they even charge her with besides being an idiot?
Anyway, I say I was on the fence, until we learned that she bought the bus ticket one week before she actually disappeared. That makes her little adventure a premeditated act, which means I have alot less sympathy for her. Same thing, you want to tell me that none of the hotels that she stayed in on her little foray into Vegas and Alberquerque did not have CNN?? We have been spending days on end on this story and she waits until the last day to let her fiance off the hook?
I know FuW said that I would be dead way before having any chance of her taking me back if I pulled a stunt like that. Thats why I can not believe the jilted fiance in this whole things is staying so calm and cool about it. I know how I would feel, Johnnie Walker and I would become close friends for a weekend or so.

My luck naturally

So, for 2 days in a row now, I have been getting up nice and early to await a repairman to come and fix my toilet. Hmm, been up since 7:46, and hey its 9:45, guess what, no repair man! And this is day two without a toilet in the main bathroom. The jokers have one hour and then I will be making an angry phone call. Ok who am i kidding, they have an hour before I make a pleasant phone call, since it usually takes alot more for me to get angry. Can someone say nap though?

Force with Force Bill

Ok Ok, 1st off, i know its Florida, and it a well known fact that the people down in Florida are just generally crazy. I mean not Texas crazy, but not very normal either. But does anyone esle think that this bill sounds like a recipe for disaster besides myself. Basically, the bill says that if you feel a threat of bodily harm, you are free to use force, up to deadly force to stop the other person.

Now everyone read very carefully, who oh who was backing the bill??

TALLAHASSEE -- With a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association at his side, Gov. Jeb Bush signed a bill today intended to make it clear that people have a right to defend themselves on the street, meeting "force with force" without fear of being prosecuted.

The measure, the NRA's top priority, which passed the Legislature overwhelmingly earlier this year, says that people who are under attack don't have to retreat before responding.

People already have that right in their home. The bill (SB 436), which takes effect Oct. 1, extends the right to public spaces, including on the street or in a place of business.

Case law and statutes dealing with the issue vary from state to state, but supporters said the measure brings Florida in line with a number of other states.

"To have to retreat ... defies common sense," Bush said.


Ok, anyone else think this is just plain nuts!!!!

Long Week

Well, its been a little while since I have posted, but I think have a good excuse for it.

FuW had an operation on her mouth and her jaw and that had me in a worried tissy. Everything went according to plan, but I have had to strap on my nurse helmet for the last week or so, fun fun fun. She has been a good patient, but the steroids she takes to help with her healing do make her darned grumpy. But overall things are looking up and I believer she will be back to work tomorrow. Lets just say we have eaten alot of pasta and rice this week.

Now for some reviews. Last weekend, not the one that just passed we saw the movieSahara (2005). While not exactly Oscar award material, it was a good movie overall, a combo Indiana Jones, James Bond and a political intrigue filled movie. Overall, a thumbs up.

While waiting around in the hospital, and then in the next few days after, I finished the book Something Borrowed. I think that Steph does a good job of baring down the good and bad points of the book, but if you are looking for some easy reading, I'd select this one. Steph's Book Reviews - Something Borrowed

Wisconsin Considers Legalizing Cat Hunting


MADISON, Wis. (April 12) - Feline lovers holding pictures of cats, clutching stuffed animals and wearing whiskers faced-off against hundreds of hunters at meetings around Wisconsin to voice their opinion on whether to legalize cat hunting.

Residents in 72 counties were asked whether free-roaming cats - including any domestic cat that isn't under the owner's direct control or any cat without a collar - should be listed as an unprotected species. If listed as so, the cats could be hunted.

The proposal was one of several dozen included in a spring vote on hunting and fishing issues held by the Wisconsin Conservation Congress. The results, only advisory, get forwarded to the state Natural Resources Board.

Statewide results were expected Tuesday.

La Crosse firefighter Mark Smith, 48, helped spearhead the cat-hunting proposal. He wants Wisconsin to declare free-roaming wild cats an unprotected species, just like skunks or gophers. Anyone with a small-game license could shoot the cats at will.

At least two other upper Midwestern states, South Dakota and Minnesota, allow wild cats to be shot - and have for decades. Minnesota defines a wild, or feral, cat as one with no collar that does not show friendly behavior, said Kevin Kyle with that state's Department of Natural Resources.

Every year in Wisconsin alone, an estimated 2 million wild cats kill 47 million to 139 million songbirds, according to state officials. Despite the astounding numbers, Smith's plan has been met with fierce opposition from cat lovers.

Critics of Smith's idea organized Wisconsin Cat-Action Team and developed a Web site - dontshootthecat.com. Some argue it is better to trap wild cats, spay or neuter them, before releasing them.

In Madison, about 1,200 people attended the Monday evening meeting at the Alliant Center - more than the 250 or so in a typical year, but less than the 3,000 or so who took part in a debate in 2000 over whether to allow hunters to shoot mourning doves.

One of the attendees was Katy Francis, who wore cat ears, whiskers, a cat nose and a sign that read, ''Too Cute to Kill.'' For Francis, ''The cat hunting thing brought me out because it was very extreme.''

MishMash of thoughts

Hey everybody, been a little while, hasn't it?

Anyways, have had some thoughts running thru my head, so this post will be a little crazy

1.How gosh darn popular is the restaurant Carraba's? FuW and I tried to go there on Saturday night at 9PM and there was still an hour wait! At 9 pm on a Saturday? How normal is that?? Its not like its a 5 star restaurant for pete's sake.

2.Watched the Masters the other day, it was quite exciting, though I was rooting for Chris DiMarco and not Tiger Woods. I was kind of annoyed at the beginning of the coverage of the Masters, because they made it look like the Tiger Woods Shootout, all Tiger all the time. It was just too bad that Chris could not catch any breaks at all, but that is why Tiger is Tiger.

3.Just finished the Book, Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K Hamilton. Would definetly give the book 3 stars, read it in under a week. A book that is combination between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Kay Scarpetta novels, so if you like one of these characters, I would recommend Anita Blake!

4. An old thought, but Philadelphia Radio took another hit with the change of format to 100.3, which used to be called Y100 for another rap station. That makes I believe 5 here in the Philadelphia area. I dont mean to be crass, and I listen to rap and R&B music, but there are more then just black people living in Philadelphia!!!

So, did you ever have a friend, that cool friend who was like in the in crowd, really good at everything you wanted to do and just someone that everyone seemed to love? Did you ever get jealous of this person when they were off doing something with the cool kids and you were at home watching reruns of the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire? And did you ever think that when this friend, who was so great to you, included you in things with a large group of people or something they were doing with people that you did not necessarily know, did it feel like some sort of pity invite? Like they felt sorry for you? How did you handle it? Schiavo Mess

And that is what it has totally become. Here in Philly, it has been a story that has been going on for a long long time, but it is now really exploding all over the place. My personal opinion is unimportant, though if I do end up brain dead, I would not want to be kept alive beyond a month. It is not living. A coma is different, you can come back from that, but being brain dead, there is no come back. And the news here is very slanted against the husband, painting there news stories like Terry was some hostage that needed saving somewhere. And the goverment's involvement?? Totally wrong and totally a political manuever by the Republicans to attach itself to a "values and morals" type issue.
It is just a mess, and it makes you sad for all involved in the end.

Watching the Creighton vs West Virginia game right now and almost fell off the couch after hearing the last name of the leading scorer for the Mountaineers. Ladies and Gentleman, please welcom Mr. PITTSNOGGLE. I mean it could have been worse, what if the T's were S's? And really, should I be one to talk really? I mean I am going to keep my last name to myself thank you very much, but suffice it to say it gets mispronounced and misspelled often. Hmm, and look what I did, name is spelled Pittsnogle. I had the darned thing right in front of me and still botched it.

Philadelphia crashing

seems to me that things on the crime wave level in Philadelphia are really getting away. It seems that there have been 75 murders in Philadelphia since the beginning of the year and 10 in the last week. Its getting scary enough that FuW is telling me to keep the doors locked during the day. Now granted, we are not exactly in the a high crime area, but I also think that the commissioners plan of telling people to keep there eyes and ears opened and report problems to the police is not the best plan either. You would think that hmm maybe they should put more police on the streets. But Mayor Street has done and excellent job of entirely destroying all of the good work that Ed Rendell as mayor. The mayor says budget cuts, though I am sure the budget would be a little bit better if they did not have to spend some money on defending the administration for wire taps and city corruption. I mean I could be wrong, but that does not sound like the best plan. But also I am kind of rambling a bit.

Interesting Thought

The FuW and I were having an interesting discussion earlier tonight, so I figured I would share it here. As some may know, I am a very big fan of West Wing, who has Jimmy Smits running for the Democratic nomination. This lead to a discussion on whether a white woman, a african american male or a latino man would be elected president of the United States. I figured that a latino would have the best shot of winning because of the large spanish speaking population in CA. Fl. and TX. FuW felt that a white woman would have the best chance, because no one would ever elect a minority candidate. I mean, there are also factors, like party affiliations, and as usual issues, as well as home state. FuW had a good point though, that the whole thing would be thrown off completely by the entrance of a Colin Powell type candidate, because tons of people love him.

As a staunch democrat, I think I would vote for a Dem. unless they were running someone like a white supremacist or something. But thats because I am sick of losing. But I also think a latino would have the best shot because he would be able to get the biggest treats in the electoral college. Any thoughts?

Bad Engish and Bad Money

Originally this was just going to be a post about Bad English. I was watching We are The 80's or something like that on VH1 Classic. I have always been a fan of there one hit song, "when i see you smile". But I forgot what the video looked like. Not only do I now think that one of there guitarists was in the other early 80's band Journey. But as I watched the video, I had to ask myself, John Waite, who told you that the wild hair look was all yours man. John, I remember you earlier man, when you were still cool, singing songs for Vision Quest. What A & R guy told you that the Gene Simmons look would work for you??

Ok and that was going to be it, just a crazy rant about bad hair and then beddy buy. Then I turn on ESPN for my last smoke of the day, and there is Kurt Warner signing a 4 million dollar contract with the Arizona Cardinals. What??? What??? How many more ways can Bill Bidwell throw money down the toilet. Bill, I watched alot of football, I may not be in the same shape as Warner, but Billy, I am like 6 yrs younger, I only need to sign for $400,000.00 a year, and season tickets for my parents. Big Plans

Ok, its just my future brother in laws birthday dinner, a unique occurrence for me actually. This is something FuW and there family do religiously. The guest of honor gets choice on a meal and Mom prepares it. A cute thing actually, since most of my family gatherings for birthdays consisted of forced gatherings amongst relatives, with bad cooking, tension and a birthday cake. Its a cute little thing actually, that they do, and even a year and a half later I look forward to these gatherings.

Music is cyclical too

Now this is a post I have been formulating for a while. I am huge into music, as FuW could attest. I think the third thing I would run out of the house with in an emergency is my ipod behind FuW and the cat. Itunes is on everyday for hrs. Anyway, I have discovered a few groups and there sounds is very familiar, probably because of my age more then anything else. And I really didnt discover them, just found them on MTV. Anyway, I am amazed how some of my favorite bands and artists sound alot like some of my favorite bands and artists from the past. Here are my examples...

The Killers=a very modern sounding band, ala Depeche Mode, or most definetly the Cure, listen to the lead singers voice modulations in some of his songs.

Franz Ferdinand=heavy on the guitar, but not at that metal level. I can easily compare them to The Clash and one of my favorites Elvis Costello & the Attractions

Keane=I struggled alot with this comparison, until it just hit me while I was in the shower. At least on the surface, which is all I have heard really from them Keane reminds me an awful lot of Crowded House.

Usher=talent wise he is cross between a more normal Michael Jackson, and a doubly more normal Prince. A showman, who can probably sing the ingredients to a martini and make it sound good. Plus he works with some of the best producers in the business.

The Black Eyed Peas=ya I cant fit them into anything, I mean they remind me alot of the fugees, the female singer is not as talented as Lauryn Hill, but better looking, but how can the Fugees be a classic influence when they were out in like 1999.

Because all of the Philadelphia news stations are offering blanket news coverage of the "snow storm". So what does this team coverage add up too? 3 weather people and 3 reporters sprawled all over the Delaware Valley, looking at wet roads. Yes ladies and gentleman, its a horror. The pavement is actually wet!! Though we do have 3 inches of snow or so, on the GRASS!

Barry Bonds press conference

I watched a great deal of the Barry Bonds press conference the other day and overall, he is a great baseball player who is a pompous arse with no real regard for anyone but himself, at least when it comes to baseball, I don't know how he treats his family, so I am sure they are doing just fine. It was a circus like atomosphere for about an hour or so.

I will say one thing that I gleaned from the conference that i agreed with. Bonds said sports is the only job where a reporter comes in and asks you questions in your workplace. yes they get paid the big bucks and yes there lives are loads more interesting then mine would be. But I can also understand how that can get annoying. I used to get annoyed when questioned by my supervisor in regards to why I did not get more widgets. Imagine how annoyed I would be if the person asking the questions did even work with me and was just there to be critical.

OK Im Pathetic

So in between commercial breaks of The Apprentice and Without a Trace, and while the news was on, I picked up a book that I had been reading since Mid January. Its one of those chick lit books that the FuW had read last year sometime, she flies thru them in a week while on the train, so we have an abudance of them to go thru. Anyway, the name of the book is The Ex Files : A Novel and while it is written with some London, England humor, it is really quite enterntaining as books go. And here is the pathetic part. There is one part in the book where something good happens for one of our main heroes, and I found myself getting a little choked up in my throat because of it. That is kind of sad, especially since I was not drinking any martini's at the time. Now I must admit I am a bit of a sap, I get knots in my throat during certain parts of a Wedding Story and Extreme Home Makeover, but it never really happens to me during a book. I guess I better start actually working on my rough side more.

Valentines Recap

Well Valentine weekend was good and bad. The Grammys were pretty decent the other night, but I do think that the reason that the big J-LO/Marc Anthony duet was in spanish, alot harder to tell that Marc Anthony was carrying J-Lo's sorry ass. The Tsunami song was ok at 1st, but when I 1st heard it I was drunk, the next day, it did not sound like they practiced the damned thing too much. FuW made a lovely fried chicken dinner. Fried chicken is one of my favorite foods in the whole world and this recipe really tasted like Popeye's Fried Chicken. AWESOME.

FuW surprised me with cards around the house, while my surprise of a delivery of flowers never came! Kind of hard to do a nice surprise on Valentines Day when the surprise don't get there. We also went to a Sixers game last night, which is why we did the Valentines Dinner Sunday. The Sixers, well AI played well, but the game showed you two things

1.Philly is really Allen and everybody else
2.The Knicks really really suck!

I was watching that discussion of Jeff Gannon or Jeff whatever his name was yesterday from "Talon News". Not only is this "news" service backed by a Republican delegate and fund raiser, but the questions that were sometimes posed by this reporter were so softball, a 3 year old could hit them out of the park. It seems like politicians can never get out of the way when it comes to doing something underhanded. Right now the Republicans have been on a bad role with that Williams character and now this fake news reporter, but Democrats don't escape these problems either, they have just been less successfull at getting far with it so far.

Weyco is an outrage

Ok this is plain and simple wrong. I am beginning to feel wronged as a smoker, everyone is out to get us. I have no problem with not smoking at work, I can wait until my lunch hour and leave the premises, but to be able to test someone and fire them for smoking at home? Smoking is legal, so I do not think it is right to be able to legislate what I do at home if something is legal. Weyco fires 4 employees for refusing smoking test Now the CEO said on the news that he does not wish to have his insurance go up because of what smokers do to there bodies. I can understand the arguement, smokers know the risks. One arguement I do have though to his logic, Is the CEO now going to force his employees to lose weight as well, because obesity is another high risk activity that leads to multiple health problems, that for alot of people can be controlled? Its just sad when rights get trampled, FuW and I were pissed.

McElhiney resolved

For any of you who followed even briefly the story of the Nashville Rhythmn and coach Ashley McElhiney firing, turns out she is not fired at all. The league is one of those communal leagues, where every owner has part ownership so majority rules to fire a coach, so when one of the co-owners pulled a George Steinbrenner and stormed the court to demand a player be benched and fired the coach because she disobeyed her, in the end all it did was make the owner look like a bigger boob then she already was, and a jealous shrew. And this is why the owners have owners boxes.

Bitten from ESPNs Bill Simmons

A great explanation of the difference between the genius of Dave Letterman and the total Vanilla of Jay Leno. Conan O'Brien cant replace him soon enough.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- As you're reading this, I'm probably standing in a buffet line at Media Day, waiting for a 300-pound sportswriter to stop loading chicken fingers on his plate. But I wanted to post something about Letterman's tribute to Johnny Carson last night, just a talented guy paying tribute to another talented guy. Letterman ended up speaking extemporaneously for something like 15 straight minutes, focused and emotional, giving a heartfelt eulogy for the man who inspired his career. And since it was the highlight of my first night in Jacksonville, I thought I would write about it.


The Letterman-Carson dynamic always fascinated me. In the mid-'80s, when Letterman would occasionally visit Johnny's show, then Johnny returned the favor during the transcendent "Letterman Goes to L.A." Week, Carson was the one guy who always left Dave a little flustered. And Dave never got flustered, not even when Crispin Glover whistled a karate kick at his head. Letterman always had too much nervous energy when Johnny was in the room -- it was obvious -- so he would over-laugh at Johnny's jokes and rip through his own material with a little too much gusto. There was something endearing about it, like watching a son trying to please his father.


Two decades later, I was watching Letterman pay his respects to Johnny on his own show. Since both men meant a great deal to me as a kid, it was emotional to watch -- especially since Letterman should have been the one who replaced Carson in the first place. And I'm not sure if he's ever really gotten over it; since he moved to CBS, it's like he's been playing a caricature of himself, except for those rare moments when he turns into a real person again (like after his heart surgery, or those painful days after 9/11). I don't think he's cared about his show for some time, but he probably can't imagine doing anything else. So he's stuck. Unlike with sports, your skills can't slip that noticeably in late-night TV -- it's more of a gradual decline, and there's no way to pinpoint when someone wasn't as good as they used to be. With Letterman, the show that used to be a parody of a TV show somehow became a parody of itself, and I'm not even sure when it happened. Then again, if he had taken over Johnny's spot, he would have defended that territory much more zealously, and he never would have allowed himself to trail a hack like Leno in the ratings.


Of course, no moment illustrated the difference between Leno and Letterman like the days after Johnny's death. Letterman may go overboard most of the time, but you never lose sight of the fact that he's a real person -- flawed, deeply troubled, somewhat anguished, but a real person nonetheless. Leno? He's a blank slate. Seriously, do you know one thing about him? Would you want to have dinner with him? Hell, would you want to have coffee with him? Me neither. Even the magazine features about him invariably drift towards his overall elusiveness as a human being, like even his friends can't figure him out. He's like the Manchurian Talk Show Host.


Last Monday night, Leno came out with a predictably awkward tribute to Carson, devoting his entire show to the man he replaced, conveniently forgetting how his manager leaked the "NBC pushing out Johnny?" story in the New York Post that hastened Johnny's retirement in the first place, or how Leno didn't even ACKNOWLEDGE Johnny on the night he took over the "Tonight Show," or how Johnny famously avoided Leno and his old show after his retirement, compounding the insult by writing jokes for Letterman's monologue as recently as last month. His "tribute" to Carson remains a defining Leno moment, like watching a female Olympic gymnast giving another gymnast one of those fake hugs they don't really mean. What a crock. May we never take this man seriously again. If we ever did.


Am I biased? Absolutely. I'm a Letterman guy. I wouldn't be doing this for a living if not for a handful of people that passed through my life, and he's one of those people. With that said, I thought the past eight days illustrated the difference between Leno and Letterman better than any show ever could. It's not that Leno is a bad person -- obviously he isn't -- but that it's physically impossible to feel any semblance of a connection to him. Maybe that's what some people need when they're falling asleep at midnight -- someone safe and harmless, someone who doesn't challenge them in any way. But he shouldn't have been the guy to replace Johnny. That's the bottom line.


As for Carson, I loved two things about him over anything else: Nobody was better at saving a bad joke, and no celebrity walked away with more dignity. Carson headed to Malibu and never came back -- not for an Oscars show, not for a Barbara Walters interview, not for a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" cameo, not even for an informercial -- and only because he wouldn't allow us to remember him any other way than we already did. Even in his final few years with the "Tonight Show," Leno and Letterman were breathing down his neck, a clown named Arsenio Hall was stealing some of his younger viewers, and SNL was running that vicious "Carsenio" sketch on his own network. The writing was on the wall. He was the face of a dying generation of comedy. So he left. And never looked back.


I just hope Letterman has the good sense to do the same one day

Last Night

Tell Sparky, was there some sort of speech or something on last night? FuW and I had an ipod night and did not turn on the TV until like 11 pm and being in the Delaware Valley, the news is all Eagles all the time. Something about bankruptcy and a hug?? Anybody got a clue??

Right after Chad Lewis caught that touchdown pass with about four minutes to go, the touchdown that cemented the victory and ensured the Philadelphia Eagles would be in the Super Bowl, some guy in the stands joyfully held up a sign that said, "We're Going To Jacksonville."

And I thought: What on earth is second prize? You have to build there?

How did Jacksonville get the Super Bowl? What, Tuscaloosa was booked?

If going to Jacksonville for a week is the reward New England and Philadelphia get for being the best teams in the NFL this year, Peyton Manning ought to be happy he didn't get there. Imagine how Manning would have felt, having to play all year in Indianapolis, and then landing in Jacksonville? Which gods would he have offended to get that killer quinella?

The NFL must see itself as handing out some sort of charity when it awards the Super Bowl to any place other than New Orleans, Miami and Southern California. Because, believe me, nobody wants the game to be anywhere but there. So when the NFL insists on putting it in outposts like Detroit, Houston or Minneapolis, people ask, "Are you guys nuts?" But when you pick Jacksonville, people are agape and say, "Who in Jacksonville has a photo of Tagliabue with a goat?"

At least these other places are big cities, with some history and a longtime affiliation with the NFL, as opposed to Jacksonville, which has now been in the league for about 15 minutes. Detroit is where American cars are made, and where Motown music originated. Minneapolis-St. Paul is the home of 3M and General Mills. Houston is the home of NASA, and, thanks to Enron, the gold standard in white-collar corporate crime. Jacksonville is what? (I'm just taking a shot here, Tony, a dump? No. Cut that out. It's a 'Ville! The only good 'Ville is a Coupe de Ville.)

Have you ever been to Tampa? It's heaven, if you like Waffle Houses.

Jacksonville makes Tampa look like Paris!

Jacksonville has this one great thing, the TPC course with the island green on No. 17. (Which is actually in Ponte Vedra.) And the rest of it can be described with this phrase, "Welcome to Hooters."

People in Jacksonville will be very upset with this piece. They will say it's a cheap shot by an effete Northerner who didn't want to be the 28th person on his own paper to write about how great and smart and handsome Tom Brady is. (Which is true, but come on, we kid because we love.) They will yell and scream that their city is hardly a backwater -- it's the 14th largest city by population in the country! Yes, and that's because it's the largest city by area by far. It's an octopus. It's 840 square miles! It takes in almost all of northeast Florida. If Jacksonville annexes all of southern Georgia, it could maybe crack the population top 10.

The NFL will tell you Jacksonville is a warm-weather site because it's in Florida. But Jacksonville is barely in Florida. It gets cold in Jacksonville. Yesterday morning, the low was 31 degrees. That's below freezing, boys and girls. That's cold enough that you need to keep the space heater turned on in the double-wide. And Jacksonville is 20 miles from the beach. Jacksonville is one of the smallest and most remote stops in the NFL. Green Bay is smaller and more remote. But Green Bay has Lombardi, Starr, Favre and the frozen tundra. Jacksonville has a Dairy Queen.

Jacksonville may be in Florida technically. But this isn't South Beach, gang. It isn't the home of Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglesias and Luther Campbell. Jacksonville is where Pat Boone was born (sometime around the Martin Van Buren presidency), and where the Southern hair band .38 Special got together. Somehow it doesn't sound like hip-hop. It's more like I-Hop.

My friend Tony Reali, "Stat Boy" on the "PTI" show, flew to Jacksonville a few months ago to emcee some dopey trivia contest. And when he walked off the plane, he got a whiff of something that almost brought him to his knees -- it was Jacksonville -- and he made the not uncommon observation, "This place smells."

My friend Mike Freeman, who used to work here at The Post and now writes a column in Jacksonville, heard the show and went wild. He called Reali "Stat Jerk" and "Stat Punk," and chided him for slandering fair Jacksonville (named for Andrew Jackson, who, by the way, never actually set foot in it -- he was probably waiting on the beach). In his column Freeman said Reali's salvo was probably the first of many that would be fired at Jacksonville now that it was getting ready to host the Super Bowl.

Get used to it, brothers and sisters, Freeman wrote, this is what they're all going to do.

Ticketmaster Sux

Ok and here's the rant. 1st off, I understand how popular U2 is, so its not surprising that both of there shows sold out in 35 minutes. So yes, I am disappointed and a bit jaded, but I do think that Ticketmaster is still an unfair monopoly. Not only do they not seem to feel the need to have an automated system that says, "hey folks U2 is sold out", but they also don't feel the need to post this on there website. We waisted an hour dialing and dialing and dialing and clicking and clicking because no one told us that the shows were sold out. Dear Ticketmaster, I am there for U2 tickets, I am not going to have my interest sparked by the prospect of seeing Tony Bennett instead, so just tell me what the hell is going on! Extremely frustrating!

Weekend revue

The weekend started out very nicely, had a dip that I will rant on in a later post and then a relaxing end, so how could that be bad?

My aunt and uncle came down to Philly for a visit and some EC classes for my uncle, who is a dentist. They stayed in the Sheraton Society Hill, which was nice, though not overally spectacular, so I don't know if I would totally reccomend it without the one night free deal the city has implemented to get people to stay. The 1st night we went to Sotto Varalli which had a pretty good selection of food. Being that it was restaurant week it was hard to find a place to go. The food was good FuW enjoyed her meal more there then the next night, though I would vote for Bliss which overall was just better in my book. Bliss has a very chi chi NY feel to it, and the beef I had was awesome. We both also loved the tempura shrimp appetizer and the liquid chocolate cake dessert, yum. Plus, the Bellevue was having a 100 year anniversary and Broad Street was all blocked off and the sidewalks were filled with orchestra music and people wearing tuxedos. One revelation was the fact that FuW has decided to make the wedding black-tie optional. It does fit, so I don't care, I'll be in a tux anyway.

During the day Saturday, we walked around Old City, including a visit to the Constitution Center, an excellent stop for Philadelphia visitors who love politics, Betsy Ross's house and the City Tavern Restaurant which struck me as some place one would find in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg, with the waiters all dressed up as colonists etc.

Sunday was deconstructing the tree and a West Wing marathon. Its amazing how much a sports fan can miss football this time of year.

Did you Know-Wyoming Basketball

Did you know that they have a 10-8 record and a conference record of 2-3, with an RPI ranking of 95?? 95!! The have a 1-3 record against top 25 rpi teams, but a 3-1 record against creampuffs in the 75-100? and 6 wins against teams from the bottom 175 in RPI, schools like our lady of the deaf and blind? And they are actually 0-4, 0-4!!!! against teams in between that ranking? A tournament bid sure could be decided by those 4 losses. But they did beat Denver and IPFW, two schools that have had a division one program longer then um, hmm, well older then 2005 at least.

Growing and growing

You people should feel the surge of Eagles fever in this town and we still have over a week to go. Buildings are green, bridges are green, every bus has Go Eagles on it. I think we will be looking at an epidemic by next week, and a major suicide watch if they lose (which is pretty likely if you break down the stats etc).

Please, lets also stop railing on about whether TO plays or not. I am beginning to not freaking care, probably like most of u people reading this now.

Reception Venue

Ok this is the website for where we will be getting married and having the reception as well. We signed the contract yesterday, so I would say its all locked up.Cairnwood, Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania Amazing thing this place is 5 minutes from our house, yet it seems like its in a different world in comparision.

Master of MultiTasking

We went to show the future in laws the place for the reception last night, and I again proved after dinner that I am a Master of Multi-Tasking when need be. I was able to catch the end of the Maryland/Duke game last night, while holding an indepth conversation with FuW about the fun she is having in her career life. And I really didn't miss anything she said. I am the man.

Maryland was the Man last night by the way. The series between the two of them is still one of the greatest in college basketball, no matter how bad a year either team in having.

Promised Land

Ok, I am not going to take any credit, mostly because it would be rude of me. But I am a believer in jinxes, curses, lucky and unlucky shirts, so I am a bit giddy about the Philadelphia Eagles finally getting to the Super Bowl. If you are not from here, I doubt you know how much this means to most of the people in this city. I know I did not understand it until I saw the way they celebrated, peacefully in the streets, all of the signs of encouragement along Woodhaven Rd and I-95, and the tears that actually welled up in FuW eyes when she saw Donovan & B-Dawg holding that trophy. I guess it goes to show how much NY/NJ people take things for granted, it seems that every couple of years one of our teams gets into a championship of some sort, and whether you love the Yankees/Rangers/Devils or hate them, it becomes second nature to expect them there. Not here in the city of brotherly love, and for that I am truly happy for the people here. They deserve some good luck.

On Edge

Well, Nothing left but to do it in the end. The whole city is on edge. There is quiet confidence for the Eagle fans on the surface, but bubbling just underneath is this feeling of "oh my god it could all happen again". I feel it too, and as I have always said, I am a quasi-Eagle fan.

Along those lines, its time for the predictions:

Eagles 24-17, in a hard fought roller coaster game, which is just a close as the score indicates.

Patriots 16-7, lead as always by the defense and the foot of Adam Vinatieri. The clock strikes Midnight for Big Ben.

Batten Down the Hatches

Ok I will give those weather people some credit at least. They may still have no real clue how much snow a area is going to get, but they are always accurate on timing of the things. They said between 10 & 12 and 10:40, we had our 1st remnants of sticking snow. Now, whether we are in for the storm of the century or not in the Delaware Valley is still something that I will look forward to waiting and seeing, but I will give out my kudos when I have to.

I am a bit backlogged on reading some of my magazines with the holidays and all, so I finally got to my January 3rd issue of Sports Illustrated last night. Look what I came across

A bit of foreshadowing if you asked me. Guess which two Qb's are facing off for a trip to the Super Bowl this weekend? I am a quasi-Eagles fan, I still wouldn't pick them over the Giants, but you have to start to feel sorry for the fans of Philadelphia and the anguish that they have felt for the last 20 years or so that you can't help but root for them (that is along as you don't go to a game with them, they are still some of the rudest fans out there). But I am genuinly concerned for this weekends game. Vick is something you do not see very often in sports, and the Falcons are very fast on both sides of the ball. I can see more doom coming for the city of Brotherly Love!

Egg??

So, Im laying down in bed with FuW, just lounging out, nodding off at about 12:30am or so on Sunday and then I hear this bang against the upstairs window right above my head. Now 1st off, FuW or the furball that sleeps on my bed dont even move. God forbid we are under attack or something, because it will be all up to me. Anyway, lucklily the window did not break and in the light of day, I find egg splattered all over the window! Now we have not been here in this development to have made any enemies or anything like that. Plus since we are an end unit, we are a cut thru for the hoodlums of the neighborhood to get to the back of the development. I have my theories on what happened. The maintenace people live in the development and I could see one of there children annoyed about coming home and taking it out on my upstairs window, because eventually the maintenance man will be stuck cleaning it up ( a beauty of renting) I am sure no one is surprised that I did not sleep well the rest of the night though are they?

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon of hope to millions of Negro slaves, who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity. But one hundred years later, the Negro is still not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacle of segregation and the chains of discrimination.

One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land So we have come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

In a sense we have come to our Nation's Capital to cash a check. When the architects of our great republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir.

This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed to the inalienable rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check that has come back marked "insufficient funds."

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. So we have come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and security of justice.

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is not time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism.

Now is the time to make real the promise of democracy.

Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice.

Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.

Now is the time to make justice a reality to all of God's children.

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of it's colored citizens. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end but a beginning. Those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual.

There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds.

Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must ever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. They have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.

And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality.

We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities.

We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one.

We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their selfhood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating "for white only."

We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote.

No, no we are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of your trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. Some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom left you battered by storms of persecutions and staggered by the winds of police brutality.

You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.

Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our modern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair. I say to you today, my friends, that even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow. I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true. So let freedom ring from the hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.

Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

But not only that, let freedom, ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.

Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi and every mountainside.

And when this happens, when we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every tenement and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old spiritual, "Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last."

Overkill?

Yesterday was black, green and white day in the city of Brotherly Love and its surrounding neighborhoods, in honor of the playoff game between the Igles and the Vikes. I have to say that this town falls into there same traps over and over again. All 3 news stations has Eagles Party specials on, as well as rapping fans who rip of Wild Wild West by Kool Moe Dee and enough renditions of "Fly Eagles Fly" to have you hear it in your sleep. NYC doesn't do those things, DC doesnt do those things, Phoenix only trots out this kinda of hoopla for the World Series, not a second round playoff game. I think its just another way for this town to get hurt all over again. I will root for the Eagles tomorrow, but they maybe out of luck if they play Michael Vick and the Falcons this weekend. Run Westbrook Run.

Gotta love Verizon

They did an excellent job of keeping me from my PC for the last few days. The dsl system seemed to have a major malfunction on Tuesday, and while it was fixed up Wed and Thurs, it still was not perfect. I think we should get credit for a day for lack of use.

Anyway, lotsa thoughts. This weekend is one of the best weekends if you are an NFL fan. The divisional games are usually the most exciting of the lot, and Sundays games will be better then Saturdays, though I would be remiss if I did not recommend at least checking out any game with Michael Vick. The Indianapolis Colts made some bulletin board type mistakes this week leading up to the game with New England. Not only did there kicker mouth off about how well they were going to do, there website began to sell AFC Championship T-shirts, about a week to early! Not a good plan.

$50 million on an inaugural?

We are going to the Philadelphia Home Show at the Convention Center this weekend. It will be fun, though I made the suggestion to go and FuW said no, yet when AM suggested it, off we go. Anyway, FuW says that its always over the top, but maybe we can get some ideas and rework them to be more affordable. I am emboldened with confidence after getting the Ikea PC desk together, though I would be thrilled if they actually included directions with words.

We think we found a place to hold the wedding, we both love it. I will post the website once everything is concrete, since I am the superstitious type. Plus I promise ring pictures once I find the wire for the camera.

Because if I did, I probably would have been wrong on most of the games this weekend, though I must admit that I usually pick teams with my heart as opposed to my head. One thing I must say, that really should not be that surprising is that I missed probably the best game of the weekend shopping. Now this was entirely my own doing, since I figured I had to give up one game for FuW. I mean that much football has got to be mind numbing, unless u love it, which I do. With the new supplies, I hope to have her computer set up in the next day or two, which means I can have the ipod that I got her for Xmas setup as well. Yes the fun life of Sparky.

Things get worse for Ashlee

Oddly this was the only place so far I could find information on Ashlee Simpson's Halftime Performance . So it wasn't just me watching TV on a set of rabbit ears in the computer room because this room does not have satelitte, she really did suck.

Could happen to a nicer Stoops

So this game last night was totally hyped, totally broken down over and over again into the possibility of a close game, a nail biter. The only ones biting there nails were the executives at ABC and Coach Stoops of Oklahoma Let me just add my own too sense, it could not have happened to a nicer team. Not only does Oklahoma never play anybody, they run up the score every chance they get against University of the Poor Sick Children, and every word out of Coach Stoops mouth seems to be a complaint, a whine, or some other cry baby tactic. To lose 55-19 on the grand stage is a fitting demise.

Auburn doesnt get it done

Yes, there defense played very well, but they did manage to give up almost 300 yards of passing, and how in the world do you let a guy get open and behind you by 10 yards when you are protecting a 10 point lead. So no, the War Eagles did not do what they had to do last night. I for one would have liked to see what would have happened if they played Utah. And thats another thing about Tommy Tuberville's logic, Utah does not even exist on his radar, yet they too were undefeated!

Another Year

So the wedding was very nice. The ceremony was held in a church in University City section of Philadelphia. It was one of those old style churches, with the ornate decorations on the inside and the old wood. It made for a lovely setting. The church wedding was your typical church wedding, with all of the catholic ceremony bells and whistles.

The reception itself was held at the Marriot Courtyard, with a view of city hall. While the room may have been too small, and the DJ did a horrible job of mixing songs for the people, overall it was a good time, especially for New Years Eve. FuW and I enjoyed it, and picked up some hints for our own wedding to come, though we have been having a bitch of a time deciding on a place to hold the reception. And then there is the whole anullment thing, still a sticky wicket that I will go into at a later time.

Thoughts of Navy, Favre, Liberty Bowl and New Years

Yes indeed folks, a rambling post if I ever saw one....

Watched most of the Navy vs New Mexico game yesterday. 1st off, who knew the weather was that bad in California, raining torrents all day, I thought it was supposed to be the land of sunshine. Anyway, I enjoyed Navy's win, I love option football, they were one of the 1st teams I ever saw in person as a kid and how can u go wrong rooting for a team who is able to drive 96 yards and eat up 12 minutes of clock. Reminded me of the old Madison Central days.

The best game of the week, and possibly the best game of the entire bowl season could be todays contest between Boise and Louisville. It is probably the only game I will TiVo. It will be interesting to see if the combined score between the 2 teams stays below 100, though I am sure the weather may affect that, though I have not actually seen what it will be like. We have a wedding tonight downtown, which is a nice change from the other things that we usually due on New Years Eve, and since it is for friends that we would usually see tonight, its like a bigger party. So congrats H & V, intials changed to protect the innocent.

Christmas Recap

Well friends, the invasion from Arizona is over. It went well overall, though I would not call it one of the best holidays I have ever had. My parents, well my father actually, always to have me on edge, maybe its still that little boy trying to prove or please, but I am not a psychiatrist. Anyway, they arrived and left safely, luckily they were not on that nightmare that is US Airways.

1st complaint:it took them 4ever to look at FuW's ring. Usually that is one of the 1st things people look at, but it just seemed to be an after thought.

We did have a nice time walking around the city of Philly the 1st day, especially since it really was not that cold overall. Plus we were able to get FuW's gifts from work home, keeping her from having to deal with Mass transit and shopping bags.

Next day, we got caught in holiday traffic, something that BD just loves, which of course, put me more on edge being the driver. Now to be fair, he was sick, which can make him grumpy, and in general, he is not the best car passenger, something I have known for a while. We did have a nice dinner for his B'day, surprised him with a cake and everything at one of out favorite places, The Buck Hotel.

Christmas eve was awesome, exactly what I had pictured in holiday dreams. A nice sit down dinner with my family, FuW's family. Good food, good drink, a good football game, nice conversation and a warm fire, all anyone could ask for really.

Christmas was very nice as well, but a bit tense again, though I think I was doing alot of it to myself. I got a keyboard, piano lessons to learn to play the keyboard, a sweatshirt that I was dying for and some other fine presents. The Barbie dream house by Dept 56 was a big hit, and naturally, E loved her ipod, though I have not set it up yet. The dinner was stressful, just trying to get everything together on time, so I really do not think I got to enjoy the whole day with the families, but that is to be expected as the chef.

Complaint #2: If one pays for rush delivery, 12 days before Xmas, wouldn't one expect said gift to come before Xmas? Damn You Temple University bookstore!

Finally shipped my folks back on Sunday. I will miss them, honestly, it is also very nice to have a house back. Now I still have to clean it up some!
