Another time where we here at Philly Transplant are going out to show some skin and raise a little money. Though, that last sentence does not sound that above board. In any case, its all a nice tie in, after seeing Forgetting Sarah Marshall< on Friday and with it being Mothers Day, raising funds for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

So, for every click on this page, featuring Mila Kunis, from now until midnight on Sunday, May 18th, I will donate a quarter to the Komen Foundation. So, everybody wins, even me, since doing a search for Mila Kunis pictures can be a lot of fun.

Pandering for charity -Lacey Chabert

I have noticed over the last few weeks, that my 50 states/50 hotties Mississippi post has been a very popular one. I think it must be because Lacey Chabert is still a popular actress, at least too look at. So, I had a goofy idea to use that power.

So, for every click I get on this post until Midnight, Monday, March 31st, I will make a nickel donation to Habitat for Humanity, which is still doing excellent work down in the ravaged Gulf Coast region. I started out a nickel, since I really do not know how many hits I will get, so if I under estimated, I will increase the amount to make it at least a worthwhile donation.

Its a Philanthropic experiment.

The 50K Meme

I know I was tagged for this meme, but for the life of me I can not remember who actually did the tagging. It could have been here, or here, or possibly here, or hell even this blogger, but its so old, and im a so late, I'll just give credit plenty of places.

Anyway, another day, another meme.

A philanthropist awards you $50,000 with the stipulation that you may use half of it for yourself and the other half you must use for the benefit of others. By "benefit of others" it can mean anything really, buying a gift for a family member or donating to a charity.

a. How do you spend the money on yourself?
Not even close, pay off most of my credit card debt. I would save a little bit for a rainy day and then I would take Mrs Duck to the Jersey Shore for a fun weekend, since we have not seen a beach this summer.

b. How do you use the money for others. Please be detailed, so if you say "give X dollars to charity, let us know what charity and why you select that one.
I have my favorite charities already, so it would be pretty easy. I would give 10,000 to Action Aids out of Philadelphia, since I still think HIV and Aids is a problem that has not be correctly taken care of. I would give $10,000 to Shriners Childrens hospital, which i talked about a lot within the blogathon. I would give $5000 to Nothing But Nets, which raises money to buy insect nets for people in 3rd world countries. These Nets help prevent malaria by just keeping the bugs away in the first place.

c. If you were to spend part of your money to have a performer do a show for you, who would it be and why?
While I think spending the money would sort of be a waste, since its not something that would stay with me, beyond my memories and bootlegs of it, but I would of course have to pick U2. Social Conscious and also kick ass musicians

d. If you were to use it on a new vehicle for yourself, what kind?
A hybrid vehicle of some kind, possibly a Volvo or a Honda. I'm not a car guy, it gets me from point A to Point B

e. If you spent part of it to go to a "fantasy" camp, what type would you choose?
Its not technically a fantasy camp, but every year, Disney and ESPN team up for a long weekend where ESPN takes over Disney World. One of the most fun places in the world, jammed with athletes and sports. Yep Im there.

f. If you were to use it to buy season tickets for a sports team, what team would it be?
In a total fantasy land world, I would get season tickets to Autzen Stadium for the University of Oregon football team. But, logically, since its only 50K and I have to get to the games, I would spend that dough on Eagles tickets.

g. If you were to use it to go on a cruise (assuming you like cruises) where would you cruise to?
Alaska, because I think it looks gorgeous and man the pictures would be sweet and plus most Alaska cruises start in Vancouver and I have always wanted to visit there.

h. If you were to use it to go to NYC to see a show (or shows) what would you see?
Les Miserables (again) and Wicked as well. Plus Phantom, yea, Phantom would be cool too.

Bthon 12.48 Famous Freemasons

The Shriners are members of the Freemasonry, which is another Fraternal Organization, like the umbrella over the Shriners organization. Does that make any kind of sense? Well, anyway, the Free Masons are the ones that determined the one organized "being" who is at the center of getting into the Shriners in the first place. Freemasons seem to be some of the upper echelon people of our country, the lawyers, bankers and candlestick makers. Again, I am surprised I am raising money for this charity, but they did such a special job with Mrs Duck that I could not ignore it.

Bthon 5.48 Some Shriner History

If anyone that knows me knew I was blogging for the Shriners and the Shriners Childrens Hospital, I mean really knew me, they would probably be a bit surprised. A little Sparky sidenote here, I am alot more Wiccan then anything else, so raising money for an organization that seems to be proporting the belief in one true being above is a little bit outside of my element. I guess, its a lesson, that if someone is doing some good, you don't need to believe in every little thing that the someone is doing to take advantage of the good.

Well, anyway, so whats a Shriner? Well, they are members of a Fraternal Organization. The only requirement is that they must be a Mason, someone that believes in the above mentioned higher being. Which I guess is a good thing since it opens it up to almost all religions, well but mine. The organization was formed in the 1870s by William Florence and Walter Fleming, to members of the aristocratic society in New York at that time. Since it is a Fraternity and I am not a member, there are plenty of things about what goes on in the Masonic Temples that are a mystery, but some how, I think as time has gone on, they have become more like any other community organization, like a VFW, Knights of Columbus, and the like.

They have a main board, like a board of Directors in any publicly traded company, which is called the Imperial Divan and the CEO of the board is elected to a one year term and is called the Imperial Potentate.

Now say that last sentence 3 times fast and see how long it takes you to get tongue tied.

***The Second Announcement***

This Saturday, July 28th, I am embarking on an endeavor that makes me think I must be a little touched in the head. But, to raise money for charity, I and many other bloggers out there will be attempting to blog 24 hours straight, making a blog post once every 24 hours in the 2007 Blogathon. I will be raising money for the Shriners Childrens Hospitals. The money that I personally donate will go to the Shriners Childrens Hospital here in Philadelphia, but you can make any donation you want to any of the 22 hospitals across North America, or the Shriners Childrens Hospital fund in general. I chose this charity because it is near and dear to Mrs Duck's heart, but I will allow her to explain in a later post, since I can not totally wrap my head around it.

You can leave a donation and even do it anonymously if you'd like in either a set sum, or in a sum based upon how many posts I do over those 24 hours. I hope it will be a fun experience and I thank you for just reading this rambling, though 22 hours into it on Saturday, I could see it being much much worse. Later on in the week I will also be offering a little incentive to just try and keep me awake.
