Thursday Thirteen #64-The Vacation Contest One

****sticky post***

As Mrs Duck and I prepare to go on a well needed vacation, I figured to keep blog traffic at least a little bit up, I would run a contest.

So, I am going to give you 13 questions, each correct answer will count for one entry in the contest. Almost all of the questions will be answerable if you just search the blog, though at least 3 of the questions will take some knowledge of Sparky and Mrs Duck.

Oh yea, prizes. The winner of the contest will get a $20 gift card of there choice and also a souvenir from vacation, which will have a retail value of at least $5. If there is a tie on correct answers, the winner will be drawn from a blind draft. The contest runs from 11:00 pm Wednesday, April 16th until noon Wednesday April 23.

Now on to the fun part.

1.Who did Sparky vote for in the Presidential election of 2004?

2.My parents have lived in 4 different states since they retired, name one of them?

3.Mrs Duck and I saw a concert in Atlantic City, what female singer was the headliner?

4.We have 2 cats, name one of them?

5.On our honeymoon in 2006, we visited 3 states. Besides Hawaii, name one of the states we visited?

6.Our hotel in Honolulu was a certain color, what color was it?

7.I have worked for a few places in my professional career. One company had many names although I worked in the same building. Name one of the companies that I worked for?

8.Where are we on vacation right now?

9.Who did I want to win the 2008 NCAA Basketball Championship?

10.I have posted a few recipes on this blog, name one?

11.Something happened to my car in 2007. What happened to it and what kind of car was it?

12.Name one music video I have posted on this blog.

13.What is the name of the Philly Transplant sister blog?

Simple isnt it? Plus, anyone that links this post with there own post about it gets an extra entry.

Sunday Ketchup

Wow, I have been gone a while. How Horrible is that. Well not that horrible, since my readership has shrunk like a guys junk in cold water. But, there have been thoughts in my head that need to get out.

The Pandering for Charity post kind of did not go over well. Part of it, I am sure, is because I have some horrible tracking widgets. So, I will be sending Habitats for Humanity $6.00 and restarting this charity thing once again in the near future. I already have my hottie picked out.

In the San Hiltadelphia group of the March Madness pool, I think it is all over but the shouting. Since not a single person in our group picked Memphis or Kansas to win the tournament, there are no more points to be earned. So, my "ex" brother in law Motas of Oregon is the winner. If you see this post before I drop you an email, send me your address so I can send the check. And as predicted, there were a few choice curse words uttered when I told Mrs Duck that Father Tex beat her by 40 points.

I knew I had not drank that much to be drunk last night, so I knew the fact that Kansas was ahead of UNC by almost 30 last night, was gigantic. The fact that they almost blew the lead was even crazier.

Memphis is very very fast.

The winner of the Shell Houston Open this weekend was Johnson Wagner. Now, doesnt the name Johnson Wagner sound like it should be in one of those fly by night law firms?

Oh, I am running a vacation contest, please stay tuned for next week.

While Mrs Duck kicked my ass, I think she will take much greater joy in defeating Brother Buckeye.

Contest Annoucements-2 Bracket Contests!!!

****Sticky Post******

Yes, not just one bracket contest, but two of them. With prizes no less.

Contest #1 is an easy one, the Sparky Duck Bracket challenge. Go through the brackets, pick the most winners, or at least get the most points according to ESPN and win. Simple enough. I have created a group over at ESPN.com.

San Hiltadelphia

Password:Philly

The prize is a traditional Duck family prize. But since I can not ship a case of beer, I will hand out a monetary amount that equals the same, at least in Pennsylvania dollars, which means $23.99 to the winner. There is no fee to enter.

Contest number 2 is called the Lower 48. It is a survival/knockout competition. I have elminated the top 4 teams in each region. To enter, you must pick one of the 48 teams listed below. First come, first serve. The team that makes it the furthest in the tournament wins. If there is a tie, there are tiebreakers. Example: If the last 3 teams all lose in the 3rd round, the team that loses by the least amount of points is the winner. If there is still a tie, the team that lost the highest seed is the winner. Coin flip if necessary as the next tiebreaker. Once a team is picked off the list it is gone, so get your choice in early.

1.Coppin State/Mt St Marys 13.Portland St 25.Belmont 37.Austin Peay
2.Indiana 14.UNLV 26.Arizona 38.St Marys
3.Arkansas 15.Kent St 27.West Va 39.Miami
4.Notre Dame 16.Clemson 28.Georgia 40.Cornell
5.George Mason 17.Villanova 29.Baylor 41.Kentucky
6.Winthrop 18.Siena 30.Purdue 42.Marquette
7.Oklahoma 19.USC 31.San Diego 43.Or Roberts
8.St Joes 20.Kansas St 32.Western Ky 44.Temple
9.Boise State 21.Cal-St Fullerton 33.Drake 45.Mich St
10.Butler 22.Gonzaga 34.Tex A&M 46.Oregon
11.South Alabama 23.Davidson 35.BYU 47.Miss St
12.American 24.UMBC 36.Miss Valley 48.Texas Arlington

The prize for this one is a $10 gift card of the winners choice.

There is no fee to enter either contest, though if you do decide to enter and then do a post over on your own blog to get some of your friends to enter each contest, that would be splendid. You have until 11 AM eastern time on Thursday to enter each contest and this sticky post will stay up until noon on Thursday.

Race for the Gold Dude

This time of year is a time full of predictions. Heck, March Madness is right around the corner, which means everyone get your pencils ready for the office pools. And while I do have a prediction in politics, I figure I should let it sit and wait until a post that someone may read.

Tonight its the Oscars. I can predict one thing that Mrs Duck & I agree on, Jon Stewart will do a capable job. It wont be stellar, but we will chortle.

Other than that, the Mrs and I dont agree too much when it comes to movies, so we had a little contest, Predict the Oscars. I will give you 12 predictions from her and 10 predictions from me, and you can laugh at one of us tomorrow.

Blgthon 33.48 Contest Answer-Boyz II Men!!

Congrats to Emily, she got the answer to the question right, because it is in fact Boyz II Men and Motownphilly.

To me, Boyz II Men was Philly music. At least it was my first real introduction to it. At the end of my high school term, they were hotter then hot. You could not escape without hearing End of the Road. And you know what, I did not want to avoid it. Goddess, I loved that song. Almost the perfect song. I hope it is still played at proms now.

Emily, contact me for your winnings

Blgthon 32.48 Contest #2 Cheesecentric

Ok, one prize this time, since there is only one question to answer. And since there is only one question, you only get one half hour to answer it. So, same prize, a $6 itunes gift card or a $6 sponsorship. One caveat on the sponsorship if you take it, you can not sponsor here with it. We need to share the love a little bit. One winner, first person to answer the question.

Ok, here's the question. In the mid 1990's or so, a R & B group shot there debut video in Philadelphia. Geno's played a small part as background scenery for the video. What was the name of the group?

Hurry, a half hour comes fast!

Bthon 22.48 Blogathon Winners, Contest 1

Don't worry, I plan on doing two more of them, however, we have two winners

Widows Son got Kixx
and
Anthony got Phantoms

The other two correct answers, that I was thinking at least, were the Bon Jovi co-owned Soul of the Arena Football League and the Wings of the Major League Indoor Lacrosse League. I was disappointed at the lack of Soul information, with Bon Jovi's involvement and all.

Guy's drop me an email at blujackit at gmail.com and let me know what you want done with your prizes. Like I said, two more contests planned for the rest of the blogathon. I will care over one of the $6 prizes from here and donate one $6 prize to a random charity in the blogathon. Thanks for playing.

Blogathon 21.48 Still the Contest

So far, no winners on our sports quiz contest, which means there are still 4 prizes out there, or 4 sponsorships even.

To make your googling life easier, I will even tell you what sports

-one is a hockey team that is not the Flyers-The Phantoms
-one is in the Arena Football League with a famous owner
-one is in Major League Indoor Lacrosse, nope I've never seen a game either
-one is an Indoor Soccer team, they play in Trenton sometimes-The Kixx

So there you go, so easy with a little computer. One guess per person and there are 4 $6 itunes cards or 4 $6 sponsorships up for grabs. A Half hour to go.

***Update***
Thats 2!

Bthon 20.48 Our First Contest

The winners will be announced at 7:30 EST, so two posts from now. And there will be the possibility of 4 winners. The prize? Either a $6 itunes gift card, or a $6 donation to your favorite charity. Please just one answer per person.

Again, it is centered around Philadelphia.

Everyone, or most people know about the 4 main sport teams in Philadelphia.
The Phillies
The Flyers
The Eagles
The Sixers

But there are 4 other professional sport teams in Philadelphia. Or at least professional in the fact that the players are paid and you have to pay to see them play.

So, name one of the teams?

You all U2 quite well

So, the contest is over, and I actually have to put my judging hat on, because there is no instant winner. No one got all 4 of the songs that I would have picked, and I expanded my list to 8 for pete's sake. My Answers by the way for only 4 would have been.

1.Bad
2.Where the Streets Have No Name
3.All I want is you
4.and my personal favorite, at least right now.

I mean hello?? Red Hill Mining Town folks, a classic, hmm hmm...

So, this is what I am going to do, since everyone was so freaking impressive.

Anyone that wants a CD that just email me at blujackit AT Gmail.com with your mailing address.

Why do I think this prize is so special?

It may or may not contain *wink wink nudge nudge for legal reasons*

A live With or Without You that I don't have a clue where its from
Beautiful Day Live from the Grammys
a 6 minute live version of 40
Dancing Queen cover
Sometimes You Cant Make on Your own from the Grammys
The Super Bowl Performance from just after 9/11
A cover of Radioheads Creep
A Where the Street that Have No Name performance from Boston and one from Rotterdam
Original of the Species from San Diego
Bad from Phoenix, AZ

So, just drop me a line and I will make it up, since all these ideas are great and really, I am not a bastard when it comes to sharing my music.

Contest!!! How Do You U2?

**This will be a sticky post until midday on Monday, scroll down, please, for more recent posts and schmoozing***

First, some quick house cleaning. Kailani & Christine of arewethereyetmom, I need your addresses so I can ship out the prizes from the last contest. So drop me a line at blujackit AT gmail.com and I will remedy that problem.

Yep, one of the announcements is in fact a contest, a musical one at that. You will have until noon Monday, to answer the question below as honestly as you can. There will be 3 winners, based on how there answers match a list of answers that I submitted when I answered the question myself. Originality and vintageness will also be considered when determining prize winners.

So, heres the question, of course in a fantasy world.

You win a contest from your local radio station, in which the band U2 will play a mini concert in your back yard. After recovering from fainting, Bono and the Edge come up to you before the show starts. Bono, in his brogue of course, "We will start the show with one of our newest songs that is on the next album and of course, we will close the show with 40, but, what 4 other songs do you want us to play, any songs from our catalog." The Edge gives you a wink and a smirk as you begin to think.

So, what 4 songs do you pick???

The winners will receive a custom created U2 CD from my extensive MP3 library. And trust me when I say there are a couple of tunes in my collection that I can almost guarantee you can't find anyplace else.

See, thats it, easy as a good swig of Irish Whiskey

We Have Winners, Oh yes we do

I ran the guess where we honeymooned contest over the weekend, just so you all would come and visit little old me while I was MIA from the computer and it went splendidly, as usual.

The question, for your memory was:The Duck Family went on our honeymoon to Hawaii. We visited two of the islands there. Name One of them.

A big thank you and gropes to everyone (well no gropes for Anthony) for their well wishes. Everyone did a great job on the guesses and the right answers were Maui and Oahu.

We had 10 right guesses, so I assigned everyone a number and did two seperate 10 sided dice rolls to see who the winners were. So, a big congratulations to Kailani of Island Life and Christine of ArewethereyetMom.

Truth be told, we had 11 right answers, since Lifeasamama also guessed correctly. But she is a winner because she was the 10th person to leave a comment and since Mrs Duck and I met in October, 10 was the secret number!

So, all you lucky winners, drop me an email with your addresses to blujackit AT gmail DOT com. Next contest, I think I am going to disqualify Kailani because she just keeps winning.

Oh and speaking of Kailani and contests, she is running a gift exchange on her sight. Its super easy to sign up for and who doesnt love getting surprises in the mail. Hurry though, you have until June 7th to get your name in. I am even doing it.

Monday, June 04, 2007

See it was brief-Anniversary Contest!!

Ok, so we are back in full duck feather mode once again. If you really wanted to see the sights and sounds of the Duck Family, drop me a line and I will send out a lovely old email.

Speaking of sending, for this special weekend, I will be holding a contest. 3 winners will be chosen, 2 winners will be selected from the group of correct answers to the question I will share, and 1 winner will just be randomly selected from the comments in general. Exciting isn't it?

What do you win? A genuine copy of the wedding favor from last year, a CD chock full of songs. It will be like you were their without having to suffer the heat, humidity, rain storm and an expensive gift. Who wouldn't want that??

So, here is the question: The Duck Family went on our honeymoon to Hawaii. We visited two of the islands there. Name One of them.

See, simple. Good luck and happy weekend to everyone. This contest will run until Monday morning at 8 am, EDT. And now, we are off to jet set around Philadelphia.

Its a Dooney and Bourke Bag for Petes sake.

I may not be a captain of high fashion. Heck, I may not know what the word couture even stands for, let alone be able to use it in an everyday sentence, well besides "I may not know what the word couture stands for", but I do know name brands. Dooney and Bourke is a name brand I know, because I have purchased a few and they usually are not cheap.

So when Pinks and Blues blog were giving one away (sorry I cant remember who pointed me in the direction of teh contest, but I could almost guarantee is was Tug or Kailani) I knew I had to enter, just to see how my luck is.

As usual, I am a procrastinator, so you, yes you, only have until 8 pm on Friday to enter, but I swear, I did not wait so long so my odds would be better. Nope not me.

Another Fantasy Addiction

I have 3 teams currently over at Fafarazzi. This is my team that did best so far, with the season ending tomorrow. I think I will finish somewhere midpack. Not bad for someone a tad pop culture dense.

Weekend, Holy Crap Im Exhausted

I understand that we are supposed to be tired on Monday. It is just a human beings right to be tired on a Monday. But this weekend was one filled with running around all over the place, so now I am still staggering as I type.

Ok, First things first, congratulations to Kailani for winning the Another All About Me book contest. We had 6 right answers and Kailani's number came up on a roll of the handy dandy Dungeons and Dragons dice roller. Way to go! Send me your book choice and your address, though the specificity of the correct answer is a tad scary.

By the way, the answer was an All Boys High School.

Though I do find it scary that no one has seemed to have ever heard of a coed Catholic school. At least in NJ, their were two all boys schools and one all girls school when I was in high school. Though, I am going to discount the High Schools in the way up north parts of NJ and the way way south of the state, since I don't even know whats going on in the places that are not mentioned on the Philadelphia or New York news. (editors note:Though I just meant the state of NJ when I meant Im discounting High Schools)

Anyway, the weekend in a nutshell.
Friday-Cleaning out closets, since Mrs Duck took the day off. That was depressing because I came to a sorry realization that I have become really really fat. Or at least outgrown all of my clothes in the midsection region. Though I guess it did not depress me that much since I still had a Slacks Hoagie and french friens with cheese whiz and BBQ sauce for dinner.

Saturday-Taxes, yick! Especially yick this year since we owe the government some money. Ok, more then some money! But it was by our own doing, ya need the money when you need that money and then pay the piper later. Looks like the piper is looking for his cash.

Sunday-Down to Spice Girls house for ham and the Masters. Dinner was excellent and I was drooling over their HDTV while watching the golf. Golf and hockey are supreme sports for HDTV, you could see the sweat on Tigers forehead as the tournament got away from him. And while most people have not heard of Zach Johnson, I am a sports geek. I remembered him from the Ryder Cup last year and in a golf pool that was held a few years back for the majors, he was one of the 10 golfers I picked. Though if I have to hear from Jim Nantz that Zack went to the University of Drake one more time, I may have to scream.

Speaking of golf, and yes I was, there will be no book giveaway contest this week, but I have been working on a golf contest that I have been very excited about, so please do stay tuned.

How was your weekend? Or have your eyes glazed over because this post was so long?

Thursday, April 05, 2007

Hey, Don't Forget

There is still about 24 hours left in my book giveaway contest #2, just look over in the right corner. No not that right corner, it closes the page! Some people may or may not be on the right track.

Another All About Me book Contest

A slight change of plans, since I was not planning on running a book contest this week, but then I won more then I gave away last week so here it goes.

There are a couple of new books upon this list this week:

1.Five Against One by Kim Neely
-The Story of Pearl Jam
2.Murder at Monticello by Jane Langton-The Hardcover version
3.The Chamber by John Grisham
4.Too Close to Call By Jeffrey Toobin
5.Playmates by Robert B Parker
6.Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson
7.Summer Lovin by Carly Phillips

Again, you have until 11:55pm on Friday night to enter. How do you enter you ask? Well answer this simple question.

It is a well known fact that I went to a Catholic High School. Was this school:

a-An All Boys School
b-A Coed High School
c-An All Girls High School

One extra bonus entry into the contest if someone can tell me what County in New Jersey this High school was located.

So there it is, another self centered book giveaway.
