Contest!!! How Do You U2?

**This will be a sticky post until midday on Monday, scroll down, please, for more recent posts and schmoozing***

First, some quick house cleaning. Kailani & Christine of arewethereyetmom, I need your addresses so I can ship out the prizes from the last contest. So drop me a line at blujackit AT gmail.com and I will remedy that problem.

Yep, one of the announcements is in fact a contest, a musical one at that. You will have until noon Monday, to answer the question below as honestly as you can. There will be 3 winners, based on how there answers match a list of answers that I submitted when I answered the question myself. Originality and vintageness will also be considered when determining prize winners.

So, heres the question, of course in a fantasy world.

You win a contest from your local radio station, in which the band U2 will play a mini concert in your back yard. After recovering from fainting, Bono and the Edge come up to you before the show starts. Bono, in his brogue of course, "We will start the show with one of our newest songs that is on the next album and of course, we will close the show with 40, but, what 4 other songs do you want us to play, any songs from our catalog." The Edge gives you a wink and a smirk as you begin to think.

So, what 4 songs do you pick???

The winners will receive a custom created U2 CD from my extensive MP3 library. And trust me when I say there are a couple of tunes in my collection that I can almost guarantee you can't find anyplace else.

See, thats it, easy as a good swig of Irish Whiskey

Oh this is easy and hard at the same time :P

Bad - Possibly Bono's finest.

Gloria - Because it one of my all time most favorite evah.

One Tree Hill - Again I just love this song and have not heard it live since they toured for JT.

Zoo Station - Because this song is just SO DAMN GOOD live!

Sorry, I deleted that last comment. I changed my mind. It's too freakin' hard to pick just 4!

Okay, here goes again...

-Sunday Bloody Sunday (Possibly my fave)
-I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
-With or Without You
-Stuck in a Moment

Actually I'd be happy if they just played all the songs on 'The Joshua Tree' album.

I purposely did not read the other comments before coming up with my four:
I still haven't found what I am Looking For
Pride (In the Name of Love)
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Where the Streets Have No Name

Can you imagine how freaking cool that would actually be? My brother got to see U2 in Boston before they got to be huge and he continues to see them every chance he gets. I would love to see them live.

If God Will Send His Angels
New Year's Day
Beautiful Day
Angel of Harlem

I wanted to pick 5. :(

U2 was the last Boston concert I got to see before I moved down Maryland way. May 2005. Let's not discuss the January 2006 Springsteen tickets that went unused.

I figure there's really no use competing against Starrlight, but I'll come of exile long enough to give it a shot:

Bad
In God's Country
The Electric Co.
Out of Control

There. Those are my choices.

All I want is You (always been my favorite)
Where the Streets Have No Name
In God's Country
A Sort of Homecoming

I saw U2 in 1987 on the Joshua Tree tour with the Bodeans, and again in the early 90's on ZOO TV Outdoor Broadcast with BAD II, and Public Enemy.

Stay (faraway so close)
with or without you

Excellent choices showing up! Desert I went back and forth on The Electric Co and Gloria. Like a see saw. And had I been given 5 choices In God's Country would have been it. The guitar make the hair on the back of my neck stand up and the lyrics are just amazing. You can come to my concert if I can come to yours!

PS...Sparky dahlin, I plugged your contest on my Schmoozie post :P

11:00 Tick Tock was the beginning of this love affair for me. And I think I have at least two or three years of age on you, Starr.

Ok, I am probably very boring when it comes to U2 because I love the oldies but goodies.

1) "Bullet the Blue Sky"
(a must, must, must; gotta hear Bono vehemently spit out "100, 200")

2) "New Year's Day" because it puts me in a trance, especially when done live.

3) "Still Haven't Found What I Am Looking For" because of the verse:

You broke the bonds and you
Loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believed it

It makes me cry every time.

And finally,
4) "Trying to Throw Your Arms Around The World" because the line "And a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I hear that song.

Not much in the way of originality, I know!

C'mon, Sparky! You don't know "11 O'clock Tick Tock" - !!!!???? And you call yourself the possessor of vintage and/or obscure U2 tunes? Hmmm....

Momish: You say you love the oldies; my list contains songs whose vintage are older than yours. Check them if you are unfamiliar. The Electric Co. and Out of Control are from the first CD, "Boy."

Cinnamon Girl said...

11 O'Clock is hella Old School. Wasn't it on the original EP before Boy, Desert? Back when they were still The Hype?

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

Enjoy U2, but If I won the contest I would send the to either Songbird or Starrlights home....

U2 Sucks!! Just kidding. Man so many songs to like, but I dont think I qualify as a U2 freak. I am more of a Boxcar Willie man. Cheers!!

I would be so out of luck because I cannot name a single one. Bono would probably walk away and not even say, have a nice day.

Starrlight: Yup - from The Hype days. See, you and I agree: the old stuff is THE BEST. Can't get any older than stuff from The Hype. Hell, I think they recorded that in Larry Mullen's garage!
