Duke Davidson Joke

Duke plays Davidson in college basketball tonight. While it is one of the best opportunities for the country to see Stephen Curry, who is probably the best player in the United States right now.



But, it is also an opportunity for me to share a humorous story that my college roommate told me when he was talking to one of his friends, about the friends little brother who was being recruited by Davidson.

Roommate:So where is your brother going to go to school?

Buddy:Davidson

Roommate:Davidson, I have heard of it, but is it a good school?

Buddy: Oh yea man, they say, Davidson is the Duke of the south.

I really do not care who wins tonight, though I am pulling more for Memphis because I like John Calipari.
But, a tradition on the NCAA Tournament coverage is the "One Shining Moment" montage. It is the one time you can cry at a Luther Vandross song when you are not at a funeral. Though, personally, I like the Teddy Pendergrass version.

Sunday Ketchup

Wow, I have been gone a while. How Horrible is that. Well not that horrible, since my readership has shrunk like a guys junk in cold water. But, there have been thoughts in my head that need to get out.

The Pandering for Charity post kind of did not go over well. Part of it, I am sure, is because I have some horrible tracking widgets. So, I will be sending Habitats for Humanity $6.00 and restarting this charity thing once again in the near future. I already have my hottie picked out.

In the San Hiltadelphia group of the March Madness pool, I think it is all over but the shouting. Since not a single person in our group picked Memphis or Kansas to win the tournament, there are no more points to be earned. So, my "ex" brother in law Motas of Oregon is the winner. If you see this post before I drop you an email, send me your address so I can send the check. And as predicted, there were a few choice curse words uttered when I told Mrs Duck that Father Tex beat her by 40 points.

I knew I had not drank that much to be drunk last night, so I knew the fact that Kansas was ahead of UNC by almost 30 last night, was gigantic. The fact that they almost blew the lead was even crazier.

Memphis is very very fast.

The winner of the Shell Houston Open this weekend was Johnson Wagner. Now, doesnt the name Johnson Wagner sound like it should be in one of those fly by night law firms?

While Mrs Duck kicked my ass, I think she will take much greater joy in defeating Brother Buckeye.

March Madness Day Two, Pool Implosion

On the pool front, while I did a very respectable job on day one, day two caused my brackets to explode into a firey heap. You know it is never a good feeling to get absolutely every 13 vs 4 game wrong. Yep, all 4 of them wrong. Nice job Duck.

In San Hiltadelphia, its Tex who is out to a very respectable 240 points after the first round, with Songbird hot on his heels at 230, plus right now she has more possible points. Lady Jane is also at 230, though her hopes are fading a little bit since she had Connecticut in the Final Four, and right now the only Final Four the Huskies are making are the final four trips to the Sundae Bar at Old Country Buffet before it closes.

Things I learned at least after round 1. As always, the SEC is a tad overrated, though I must give props to Mississippi State for defeating my beloved Ducks. Duke is even more overrated then the SEC and I am now kicking myself for not going with Xavier, which I did earlier in the week in a different contest. Michael Beasley & Stephon Curry just raised there NBA stock over the last two days, while OJ Mayo may, just may want to consider another year of seasoning. And no matter how many times they happen, Buzzer Beaters and last second upsets are still alot of fun to watch.

March Madness, Day One, Early

In the San Hiltadelphia group, it is the Desert Songbird out to a very nice start. While the Stanford/Cornell game is not over yet, I can safely predict that she will go 8-0 for the early session, a very nice start. Motas of Portland, Tex and Lady Jane Scarlett are also in fine shape, looking at 7-1, while Mrs Duck will probably go 6-2 since she took Cornell for some reason.

I did not see any of the darn games, though was able to follow most of them on my cell phone when I needed to. It looks like the only games that had any breath were Xavier vs Georgia and Pitt vs Oral Roberts. Georgia just had to be warn out still, after playing through a tornado and also having to play 4 games in 3 days just this past weekend. Oral Roberts got behind way too early and could not scratch and claw there way back fully, submarining one of my Sweet 16 teams.

Be sure to catch the Kansas State/USC game tonight, just because it pits two future NBA stars in freshman Michael Beasley vs freshman OJ Mayo.

Race for the Gold Dude

This time of year is a time full of predictions. Heck, March Madness is right around the corner, which means everyone get your pencils ready for the office pools. And while I do have a prediction in politics, I figure I should let it sit and wait until a post that someone may read.

Tonight its the Oscars. I can predict one thing that Mrs Duck & I agree on, Jon Stewart will do a capable job. It wont be stellar, but we will chortle.

Other than that, the Mrs and I dont agree too much when it comes to movies, so we had a little contest, Predict the Oscars. I will give you 12 predictions from her and 10 predictions from me, and you can laugh at one of us tomorrow.

Let the debating begin....

Super Tuesday Madness

Everyone who knows me knows that I am a geek, at least when it comes to history, sports and politics. History is really the only thing that does not exactly fit into that last sentence, but it was what I was good at in school, helping one to be geeky. But politics and sports seem to go hand and hand. Its all about competition.
Tomorrow, its Primary Super Tuesday, where almost half the country will be voting on the Democratic side and one fifth of the country will be at it on the Republican side. To me, a Primary Super Tuesday is like the Conference Championships in NCAA Basketball. You know, those little tournaments that you can find on your smaller cable stations at like 11 at night. Its not the major conference games where you are fighting over whether the 7th or 8th team from the Big East gets to the Big Dance, its the small game, where only one team is going to get to go. So its more of a basketball game for the purist. And primaries are more of a political fare for the purists of each party. Which is of course why I love it.
So, here are my hopes, as it seems things are getting all topsy turvy on the Democratic side and not totally settled on the Republican side either.
Obama and Clinton end up at just about the same spot that they began at, a virtual tie, just with alot more delegates on each side of the ledger. An upset here or there would be nice, like an Obama win in NJ, or a Clinton win in Arizona, but as long as the two of them have to keep honing there message to prepare for the "big dance" that would make me plenty happy. Plus it will give me more time to decide for myself which of the 2 I like.
For the Elephants, I am hoping that Huckabee steals a state or two, meaning that the outcome still will not be decided once all the votes are counted tomorrow. I will admit McCain as the nominee scares me as a Democrat, because he could conceivably win. But, I am also about the torture and the torment, the soap opera so to speak, and Huckabee winning just enough to keep things for the Republicans a 3 person race would be plenty of torment to go around.
Oh and it would be cool if Ron Paul could finish second in a state or two, just because he makes the Republican debates so much more interesting.

Plus live blogging Super Tuesday will be much more exciting if it was unpredictable.
