50 Hotties-50 Days New York

At first, I was sweating New York, the decisions were going to be difficult, even at an early blush of research. Jennifer Connelly, Melissa Joan Hart, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Esposito. My goddess, New York can be annoying, but they do create some very hot women.

But, I have a list, a Fantasy No Really its No Problem Honey List. And anytime one of those ladies comes up on the list, I am sure they will be getting on the 50 in 50 list.

Scarlett Johansson was born Novemeber 22, 1984 in New York, New York. She has many many movies out, including starring in the upcoming Nanny Diaries, a Duck book favorite. For me, she really connected in In Good Company.

Pick Your Poison #3, plus a bonus

ahh Summertime, a time of pools, beaches, sun and Rum. Plus, I tried to take care of a request for Rhia for one of the drinks. I hope it fits the bill. One other note, even if you are not a drinker, slide past drinks to see another spectacular meal presented by Dragon's Kitchen.

Remember, 2 ounces equals one shot glass

Columbia Cocktail

0.5 oz lemon juice
0.75 Raspberry Syrup
2 oz light rum

Fill a mixing glass with ice and add all ingredients. Shake and strain the mixture into a martini or margarita glass and enjoy.

The Jack Sparrow

2 oz Spiced Rum
2 oz Tennesee Whiskey (like Jack Daniels, though I used bourbon)
2 oz vodka

combine all ingredients in a highball glass with a few ice cubes and enjoy
.

I gotta give credit to recipezaar, where you can get this recipe set up in the form of a shot.

And now on the food front, thanks to a suggestion from Hyperion, Dragon posted her Dragon's Sausage and Potato Gnocchi. This meal was absolutely, positively fantastic. It was very easy to make and it was a big hit not only with Mrs Duck, but also with her co-workers when they got to sample some of the left overs the next day. Stop by Dragon's site, she has some fantastic things besides the two I have talked about already.

Sausage and Potato Gnocchi

1 18 0z package of Potato Gnocchi
3 smoked pork sausages (turkey sausage works great too), sliced
1/4 cup of chopped onions (Hyperion, you can skip this part)
1 clove of garlic, minced
3 tablespoons of butter
pinch of hot pepper flakes (optional)
1/2 tablespoon of fresh thyme leaves
1/2 tablespoon of fresh oregano, chopped
1 cup of frozen peas, run under water to thaw
1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese
salt & pepper to taste

1. Prepare the gnocchi according to package instructions.

2. While the gnocchi is cooking, heat up a skillet with 2 tablespoons of butter and add the sausage and onions. Cook until sausage is browned and onions are soft.

3. On medium heat, add the garlic, hot pepper flakes (optional), thyme and oregano. Cook for 1 minute or until the garlic is softened.

4. Drain the gnocchi, reserving a little of the cooking water. Add the gnocchi to the sausage mixture. Shake the skillet so the gnocchi doesn't stick. Its ok if the gnocchi browns a bit on the bottom.

5. Add the peas and remaining tablespoon of butter. Salt and pepper to taste. If needed, add a little of the cooking water to thin out the sauce.

6. Top with parmesam cheese. Let the cheese melt slightly before serving.

Trust me, it is fantastic!!

50 Hotties 50 States-North Carolina.

A slight switch up because I totally blanked on doing this today and technically the next state would be New York. I am going to skip ahead and then double back tomorrow. So all you New York fans, be patient.

North Carolina was a pretty easy straight forward state to deal with. Though, I am hearing from Margo about whether they were all going to be brunettes. Im trying to mix it up, but hell, its my list :). Anyway, North Carolina seems to have alot of porn stars born there, but not alot of mainstream actresses.

Julianne Moore was born December 3, 1960 in Fayetteville, NC. She has multiple award nominations and she is also best known at least in my book for Boogie Nights.

Wiki better watch out

The new FiOS is awesome. When they say ride the light, they really mean it. I still have not gotten the power cord situation resolved, but that is more of a monetary problem then a finding the cord that works for the laptop problem. But, if you can get your hands, or at least your USB plug on FiOS, go out and do it. And, it is actually cheaper with the combination of the unlimited calling program then it cost for DSL.

OK, Verizon commercial over. One problem with the new internets is that you can find a lot more things that can tick you off. Now, I will not take the credit for being turned onto Conservapedia, Lewis Black has to get the credit. But, when you dig deep into the site, it actually is a tad scary! Ok, more then a tad. Let's compare some definitions with Wikipedia.

Homosexuality:
Wikipedia=Homosexuality can refer to both sexual behavior and sexual attraction between people of the same gender or to a sexual orientation. When describing a sexual orientation, it refers to enduring sexual and romantic attraction toward others of the same sex, but does not necessarily involve sexual behavior.

Conservapedia=Homosexuality is an immoral sexual lifestyle between members of the same sex. It is more than simply a sexual act, it is going beyond the boundaries that God has setup for marriage; one man and one woman.

Planned Parenthood:
Wiki=Planned Parenthood is the collective name of organizations worldwide who are members of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is the U.S. affiliate of IPPF, and one of its larger members. PPFA provides both reproductive health and maternal and child health services. The organization's status as the United States' leading provider of surgical abortions has put it in the forefront of the US national debate over that issue.

Conserva=Planned Parenthood (officially the Planned Parenthood Federation of America) is the largest organization in the United States that performs abortions, provides birth control[1] and a limited amount of health care. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the United States.[2] It performs nearly 200 times as many abortions are referrals for adoption.

Evolution:
Wiki=Evolution is change in populations of organisms over generations. Offspring differ from their parents in various ways. When these differences are helpful, the offspring have a greater chance of surviving and reproducing, making the differences more common in the next generation. In this way, differences can accumulate over time, leading to major changes in a population.

Conserva=The theory of evolution is a naturalistic explanation of the history of life on earth (This refers to the theory of evolution which employs methodological naturalism and is commonly taught in public schools and universities). The concept of materialistic evolution differs from the concept of Theistic Evolution in positing that God does not guide the theorized process of macroevolution[1] A majority of the most prominent and vocal defenders of the naturalistic evolutionary position since World War II have been atheists.

Baseball:
Wiki=Baseball is a sport played between two teams usually of nine players each. It is a bat-and-ball game in which a pitcher throws (pitches) a hard, fist-sized, leather-covered ball toward a batter on the opposing team. The batter attempts to hit the baseball with a tapered cylindrical bat, made of wood (as required in professional baseball) or a variety of other materials (as allowed in many nonprofessional games). A team scores runs only when batting, by advancing its players—primarily via hits—counterclockwise past a series of four markers called bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or "diamond." The game, played without time restriction, is structured around nine segments called innings. In each inning, both teams are given the opportunity to bat and score runs; a team's half-inning ends when three outs are recorded against that team.

Conserva=Baseball, known as rounders in England where it originated, is a game consisting of nine active players on each team (except for those teams having designated hitters) who take turns playing defense on the field and batting one at a time. The object is for the batters to hit a ball thrown by the pitcher into "fair" territory such that it is not caught in the air and gives the batter time to run to a base. The offense strives to advance these baserunners until they circle the three infield bases in order and get to the fourth base, called "home". This results in the scoring of a run. Failing to reach a base during their batting attempt results in an out, and the offense is only allowed three outs before they must take the field once again. Each team is allowed nine of these "innings" during the course of the game, an exception being that a team does not bat a ninth time if they are winning after the other teams ninth attempt. If the game is tied after nine innings, additional innings are played until there is a winner.

Hey they sorta agree!! Or maybe not.

Rock the Vote:
Wiki=Rock the Vote is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in Los Angeles in 1990 by Jeff Ayeroff for the purposes of political advocacy. The first Rock the Vote campaign was called, "Censorship is UnAmerican." The Canadian version of Rock the Vote was founded by Nat zeke Zavier in 1981, while the Irish version of Rock the Vote was founded by Patrick Cosgrove in 2006, and was active during the 2007 Irish elections.

Conserva=Rock the Vote is a controversial left-wing organization, founded in 1990 in what the group claims was "a response to a wave of attacks on freedom of speech and artistic expression." They were once affiliated with the MTV network.

Well, I guess we can all agree on sports.

50 States 50 Hotties-Virginia

A slight upset today, as my choice may surprise some, especially Mrs Duck, since I usually drool over Sandra Bullock and she did not mkae the cut today.

Sabrina Lloyd was born in Fairfax, Virginia in 1970. She is a television actress who I think I think was on the show Sliders and I can say for sure was on the show Sports Night, since it is one of my favorite favorite shows ever.

50 States 50 Hotties-New Hampshire

New Hampshire was fun because there was not much to go off of. It was Mandy Moore, some extra from Manchester and todays selection.

Keri Lynn Pratt was born September 23, 1978 in Concord, New Hampshire. She is known for being a TV actress, though she also played bit parts in some movies. Her biggest role was on Jack & Bobby. She also has the distinction of being on a TV series that was canceled before it even made it to air, Cruel Intentions-The Series.

The Search for the Dell Grail

It seems my power cord for the laptop has decided to fart out on me. It sort of works, but only if the wire is bent in a perfect angle and is not jiggled too much. Which of course is perfect for a laptop that gets jiggled around often.
Here is my first complaint, Dell should have some of there things available at the kiosks they have in the mall. I am not saying that they need to have the laptops available, but some of the accesories should be able to just be picked up. Of course, this is why Apple is a computer giant and Dell is just a kiosk, next to the calendars and the skin creams.
I was off, WFAN on the radio and braving the heat that is close to unbearable. Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, even Target and no one had nothing. I was particulary disappointed in Staples and Circuit City. They had plenty of replacement batteries, but the thing that would charge the batteries was non-existent! Pleasant.
So, tomorrow I have a decision. I could run all over the upper parts of Bucks County, or I could hope that the Universal cord that Mrs Duck bought 10 years ago will work on this laptop. Or I could just not jiggle. But, who are we kidding, we all know I am jiggler.
If anyone has a power cord for a Dell Inspirion 1150 laptop lying around that they are willing to donate, you would have one happy duck on your hands.

50 States 50 Hotties-South Carolina

Anthony was right, I am listing the first set of lovely ladies based on when there states ratified the Constitution. That will change later on, as I think I will go regionally, but for now, we are off to South Carolina.

The south is hard, because there are many many choices. I could have gone with Lesley Zen, since she has finally acted in a movie that is not pornographic. Or I could have chosen young stars like Ashton Lunceford or Allison Munn. Heck, even Eartha Kitt was hot in her day and I have this soft spot for Shawnee Smith. The south is overrun with hotness.

Andie MacDowell was born in Gaffney, South Carolina in 1958. When it comes to her, I am a sucker for the hair I guess.

Not So Miserable in New York

Well, I am such it is a little miserable there today, since it just has to be hot as hell! But, I am talking about over the weekend, when the Ducks invaded Broadway.

Now, as you should know, I grew up in New Jersey. There are a few things you learn when living in the Garden State.
1.You dont wander too far from the casinos in Atlantic City
2.If you do have to go to Newark, you take the train
3.Don't get lost in Trenton.

Number 3 was the problem this weekend, or at least it was the problem in my silly head. We took the train to Manhattan out of Trenton. It was the closest spot and it would guarantee us getting a seat, but when there is no parking and things arent marked well, and you have to turn off from the safety of the train station parking lot into what could be an abyss, you get a wee bit cranky. Sue me, its the ABC's of me.

We did finally find $13 parking close to the station, though $13 was a tad painful to part with since its a $1 a day if you park at Septa. And we were off.

New York is crowded, Manhattan is even more crowded, the area between Madison Square Garden and Broadway is more crowded then papparazi chasing Paris on a drunken bender! It is rather overwhelming, at least to the senses. Sounds, and noise and guys begging for smokes and people shilling for the Grey Line bus tour and the $1 jewelery and the pretzel guys and on and on and on. Oh and don't forget the giant billboards and the cabs!

We ducked into the giant Toys R Us, which would be sensory overload for anyone under 15, or probably over 50. But, the bathrooms were clean, easy to find and we almost got run over by Geoffrey the Giraffe only once.

Dodging and weaving, we get ourselves settled in the Broadhurst Theater for Les Misarebles, flipping through the Playbill as the lights dim to see the Saturday Matinee is a understudy haven and I feel some anticipation as the lights dim. Of course, for the first 10 minutes of the show, I can not engross myself in whats going on because there is the ushers still trying to seat people and the theater ain't that big.

Jeff Kready played Valjean and did an amazing, amazing job. His "One Day More" caused my second brim of emotion and tears, always good since you easily get caught when the lights come up for intermission. Lea Salonga was stunning as Fantine. Stunning! When she sang "Come to Me", I was engrossed. I had been waiting a good ten years at least to see this play and as she sung, I could not believe that I was actually finally getting to see it. That was the first time I welled up a little bit, ok more then a little bit. I was so happy and I was just in my own happy little world. Eponine was an understudy as well, but I am sure we will all here the name Megan McGinnis again. Even, Mrs Duck, commented upon how amazing she was. Goddess, they were all amazing.

We got out of the city and survived the trip home, but I had the Finale still ringing in my head. It could have been a 3 hour trip and I would have been happy.

I swear, any chance I get I will see this play, touring group or in someplace that they have it showing. I will see this play again.

50 Hotties 50 States-Maryland

A new week, a new set of hotties. Maryland was the first one on our list today, can anyone tell me how I am picking the states so far? Maryland itself was a bit more difficult then the last few states, because there was no wow, yes, thats it moment. A final decision was made that Laura Wright was close but no cigar and that Parker Posey was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 8, 1968.

I got this one from Soliloquoy, a neat blog I added to my reader.

Your Score: Orpheus

33% Extroversion, 66% Intuition, 100% Emotiveness, 76% Perceptiveness

You are an artist, an aesthete, a sensitive, and someone who has never really let go of that childlike innocence. To you, all of life has a sense of wonder in it, and the story of Orpheus was written about someone just like you.

When the Argo passed the island of the Sirens, Orpheus played a song more beautiful than the Sirens to prevent the crew from becoming enticed. When his wife died, he ventured into the underworld to charm Hades but, in his naivete, he looked back becoming trapped there.

You can capture your unique world view and relate it to others with the skill of a master storyteller. Your sensitivity and creativity make you a treasure to the human race, but your thin-skinned nature and innocence can cause you a lot of disenchantment and pain. What's doubly unfortunate is that, if you try to lose those traits, you never will, and everyone will be able to tell that you're putting up an artificial shell to prevent yourself from being hurt.

Famous people like you: Hemingway, Shakespeare, Mr. Rogers, Melville, Nick Tosches

Stay clear of: Icarus, Hermes, Atlas

50 Hotties-50 States Massachusetts

Ok, I am behind one day, which could be good news, because there will be two hotties on the blog today as opposed to one. Saturday, I was supposed to be covering Massachusetts, and it started out as being a tough choice, because there were alot of actresses that could have been considered cute, or sexy, but all could have been easily argued to be the hottest. And then...

Uma Thurman was born in Boston on April 29, 1970.

Les Miserables, First Reaction

I know no one really reads these blogs on the weekend, let alone on a Saturday night in the summer, but I just had to gush for just a quick bit. I will get into the whole day trip to New York and the fablouslessness that is Les Miserables, but if you have ever found yourself in a moment where you said two things "My goddess, why have I not seen this before, and geez, don't let it end", that was Les Miserables to me today. I. am still on cloud 99.

Case of the Shys

Now, yesterday I was all big on sharing some secrets of me, including the fact that I seem to be extraordinarily shy when it comes to social situations. I know, I know, you are sitting there thinking, Sparky? Shy??!? No freaking way.

Well, allow me to present Exhibit A. Colleen Gleason, an author of Victorian Vampire novels and I have been talking via email and blogs for over 6 months at least. Its not like I have never had some sort of communication with this woman before, she is not a complete stranger. Heck, she is the one that found my blog first, so I must have something witty to offer.

Colleen was in North Wales, Pa, just across the street from the Montgomeryville Mall, signing books of her second release, Rises the Night, in the Gardella Vampire Hunter/Killer/Venator series (its one of those words). So, as we found her in the corner of the Borders, scribbling away with her sharpie, I was a blithering bafooon. I stuttered, I stammered, I felt I might have looked like one of those 16 year old geeks who was meeting William Shatner for the first time at a Star Trek convention. I could not even really explain where by nom de plume even comes from. Its Sparky Duck for petes sake, how hard can that be?

If Mrs Duck was not there to help with the conversation, it would have been "Um good book, yes next book good signed too, ugh ugh, caveman go now." I swear I have a brain, I would have talked about the weather in Michigan, how exciting that book 3 is already under contract, why she was in this area in the first place since most of her tour was in Michigan. Did I? Nope? At least I didnt drool. Oh and I was normal enough to pose for a picture, with Mrs Duck and of course Colleen in the middle.

Famous!

50 Hotties 50 States-Connecticut

Not as tough a choice as yesterday, though there were some interesting names to choose from. I just can't consider Brooke Burke really an actress and while I would have loved to put in Jenna Von Oy of Blossom fame, it just didnt happen. It was close though.

Gretchen Mol was born in Deep River, Connecticut on November 8, 1972. She's got that clean fresh look.

50 Hotties 50 States-Georgia

At first I was hemming and hawing, as my search went on because there would be a struggle between Kim Basinger, Joy Lauren, and Brittany Murphy. Then the clouds cleared and the answer was easy.

Julia Roberts was born in Smyrna, Georgia in 1967. No contest. Oh and I threw in some eye candy for the ladies.

I do have to add one honorable mention picture for Brittany Murphy, since I currently lust over her, but she could not outdue Julia.

Thursday Thirteen #40-The Me One

Thirteen Unknown Things about Sparky Duck

First, just to let you know, the 50 States project will continue later on this afternoon.

I was tagged for a meme a few times, one time I know was by Tiff and then Wordnerd, to list 8 things that people in the blogosphere don't know about you. Now, since it took me forever to do this meme, I figure I would punish myself and make it 13 things. Twelve of these things will be true, one will be a lie. Can you guess which one is fake?

1. I will watch any kind of sport on TV but hockey. Hockey just does not translate to the TV set at least for me. This is a bold statement, because when I say anything I mean even the CFL, Womens Lacrosse and tennis over hockey.

2. I have an addictive personality. Which probably explains why I still smoke. I get into something and I just can't get out of it sometimes. Luckily, I also recognize my limitations, so I am not spending the rent money on vodka and the ponies.

3. I believe cats are good luck charms, or at least a spiritual center of mine. That explains my Bastet necklace and my Celtic Cat charm. Cats seem to love and trust me, no matter if its the first time I am meeting them or not. There has to be some reason they trust me that much.

4. I was raised a Catholic, baptised and confirmed, went to a Catholic high school and I don't consider myself a Catholic right now. I am more leaning toward the Wiccan beliefs. I have no problem with going to church, as long as it won't fall on my head. I just don't think the beliefs of the Church and myself see eye to eye anymore. Plus if I was 10 years younger, I would be Gothic.

5. I took piano lessons a few years ago and am disappointed that I stopped after only a few weeks because I could not get my left hand to work. Well, the left hand works, it just does not work well with my right hand when it comes to playing chords.

6. Mice scare me to death. Like scare me on the level of how some people are afraid of flying. They make my toes curl up, and I feel like I am hyperventilating. And this is when I see them running away from me outside. Inside, I just might pass out.

7. I fight the creeping of depression a lot. I think that can be fixed more by me turning things around in some parts of my life. But I can't do the pills, see #2.

8. Purple is my favorite color. I am talking a rich deep, eggplanty type purple. This explains I think why LSU was one of my favorite teams growing up and I still find myself pulling for the Bayou Bengals and Northwestern during the football season.

9. I surf. I don't consider myself an expert surfer, especially when it comes to comparing myself to surfers on the North Shore of Hawaii. However, surfing is one of those relaxing things that still gives you that rush of energy, even if it just off the Jersey shore.

10. I cry probably more then a man should. Now I am not saying I am a fountain or that I cry at the drop of a hat, but put me in front of Extreme Home Makeover or a sad sappy movie like Dreamer or Love Actually and I can feel that lump in my throat already. Sheesh and don't ask about the wedding.

11. I read all kinds of different books. My reading list runs from Biographies, to political books to sports books to paranormal romance novels. My current list has The Greatest Story Ever Sold, followed by the second by Colleen Gleason book, followed by a Jodi Picoult with one by Wylie or Tilly mixed in there. Oh and Rick Reilly too. See the reading list is nuts.

12. I am shy in public, at least when it comes to social situations. When I am in a spot that I should not even be uncomfortable in I still feel sweaty palms. When I am meeting some sort of friend for the first time, either a blogger buddy or some of Mrs Ducks friends, I spend the first half hour kind of stammering and stuttering. Not good if you only see folks for 15 minutes.

13. My brain keeps me up at night and its not even scary things that it is thinking about. It just gets on this cycle of trying to not forget something and it just keeps repeating it over and over and over again. Until I wake up and tell my brain to stop it and it actually does. odd eh?

Sheesh, looking at this list, its kind of depressing. I am not that much of a downer, its just that when you have over 700 posts, you already have shared that your are a cookbook junkie, a Ipod freak, a football fan, in love with the best lady in the world and bleed Democratic blue. or I havent and you just found that out too :)

Oh and no tags, it took me way to long to get this one done.

The Pie Revolution continues

Starrlight was all a apopleptic because apparently there is too much cake being passed around as celebrations. She wanted some "pie love". Now if that is not a recipe for some racy comments, I don't know what is, but I have to be sure to keep up with the revolution, so the rebels don't run me over.

So, here is a recipe for a pie based out of Kentucky, but is not Derby Pie, since you can get sued for calling it Derby Pie. So, its Rebel Stakes Pie. Yea thats it, Rebel Stakes pie.

* 3 eggs, lightly beaten
* 1 c. light corn syrup
* 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
* 1 c. chopped pecans
* 1/4 t. salt
* 1/2 t. vanilla
* 6 oz. package semi-sweet chocolate morsels
* 1 9 inch deep dish pie shell, unbaked

PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Mix all ingrediaents and pour into pie shell. Bake for 10 minutes and reduce heat to 350 degrees for 35 minutes more. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

50 Hotties-50 States New Jersey

ok, todays choices were very very difficult, explaining for the slowness of this post. But, its very hard to decide between Meryl Streep, Christina Milian, that Tisdale girl from High School Musical, Ali Larter, Mira Sorvino, Laura Prepon and Janine Garafolo. Who knew New Jersey had so many beautiful women born in there state? I surely didnt and I did not even count the porn stars or bimbos that run around with those guys on the WWE.

But, I digress, todays Hottie from New Jersey is Kirsten Dunst of Spider Man and Bring it On fame. Kirsten was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey in 1982.

Really? Super Tuesday? Already??

Ohhh, no it seems we all did not totally sleep through most of the summer and fall, its just a catchy little slogan being offered up by MSNBC to go ball to walls political today.

I started watching MSNBC today around 1 pm or so. I had already blown through most of the things I had saved on TiVo, and the local news was over. It was to blasted hot and humid to go outside and hit golf balls, or even walk for that matter, so I figured I would see what this Super Tuesday was all about.

What its all about is really absolutely nothing. The dregs of both political parties that are running for President still think they have some hope of a chance of winning the nomination, so there is plenty of talking heads to fill the time between talking about what Hillary did today.

One thing you do realize though is how low on the totem pole some of these campaigns really are. They promised to try and talk to each and every other candidate running for the highest office in the land and I saw alot of these accepted interviews. I must admit I lost a half hour to a brown out, but you can tell things are going badly for James Gilmore. He was stuck talking to Andrea Mitchell, who is an awful interviewer, especially live. As time went on, the idea that time is wavering for Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich and possibly Richardson was evident, since there interviews were held before the first installment of the Tucker show, which I am sure has some ratings uptick somewhere. So, you could tell right off who the little fish were and how we might get to see glimpses of the big fish on one of the additions of Hardball. Or maybe not.

One other thing that annoys me is the attention Thompson is getting, especially since he is not a declared candidate. Apparently, he was in England today, sucking up to Margaret Thatcher, because I heard all about it at the top of every hour for 4 hours. Hey, I am not a candidate, do you think the news is reporting that I was at the Giant Foodstore, or that I was sucking up to my 7-11 buddy so he would give me a lucky scratch off ticket?? Someone let me know when the acting Thompson actually gets into the election so he will have to answer some tough questions before we start covering his every move like he was on Twitter.

50 Hotties 50 Days Pennsylvania

This one was really quite tough. To decide between Maria Bello, Grace Kelly, and even Sharon Stone is very very difficult. So, rather then decide, lets place a hottie that would pale to those three but is still fine and dandy. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and yes she is an actress on a couple of soap operas, Kelly Monaco.

Where's Amy and El Pato

Its one of those times in a blog when you have two ways to go and you have to decide which way to go. But, I am going to take my cue from the Nightly News and do news before sports, weather, and the human interest story. But, try and hang on for it all, the human interest is a nice little thing to do.

Last week, or possibly even the week before there was a little boy left in an empty parking space at Christiana Medical Center in Newark, Delaware. A nurse discovered him, crying and hot from the sun, but overall healthy and agreeable in comparison to his situation. She brought him into the hospital and he eventually ended up with some foster parents while the autorities and the news tried to find his parents. The boy was 12 to 18 months, way beyond the safe haven law in Delaware, where you can leave a newborn baby up to one month old I think, with no questions asked. The child had a note with him, saying take care of John Vincent, since I can't anymore, God help me. Or at least something close to that.

Ok, sad story, the poor mother, what a shame, but at least the boy will probably end up with a good and happy home. Well, last week, their was a twist that takes the story from sad to something more sinister. Amy Giordano, the mother of the child is now missing. There have been statements that her abandoning her child at a hospital is irresonsible and she may be charged, if she is found. The problem is, she is from Hightstown, NJ. Hightstown is a good 2 hours away from Christiana. There are 3 hospitals that are closer, two of which within a half hour of where she lived. One of them is a nationally lauded hospital and another is run by a Catholic Church, who will not turn away an abandoned child. The third was my hospital as a kid, so its not going to be a fly by night operation. The note identified the boy as a totally different name then what his actually name was. There is an inkling in my brain that perhaps she has been met by some foul play, and Christiana was the first hospital someone found on 95 south for them to dump the kid.

Now to El Pato. See, we now quickly hop to sports! El Pato is the nickname of Angel Cabrera of Argentina. Cabrera is the 2007 US Open mens golf champion, defeating the number one and number 3 players in the world. Perhaps you have heard of them Tiger Woods and West Chester's Jim Furyk. Hats off to Cabrera, or even better, bills off to him, since El Pato stands for The Duck. Whats so remarkable about his win is that he is always one of those golfers that is right there, before the yips, jitters, or nerves hit him and he can not put a golf ball into the ocean. So, it was a shock that he beat Tiger, Furyk, a whole bunch of other name players, on a golf course that had greens as flat as a meatball pizza that has been jostled on the trip home. Nice one, Angel, Nice one!

Ok, real quick, if you have some time, hop on over and say hello to Chelle. She is having a really horrible day, having to do something none of us should have to do, so send her a cyber hug.

Getting on the Poetry Train

Rhian has been running this little poetry train over on her blog and it has gotten some really great participation from alot of authors who are so much more creative than me. In that vain, rather then doing something original that would sound like dog poop, well sound like dog poop coming out, I figured I would share some amazing words from The Killers. I find my inspiration and some of the most creativeness in music and lyrics.

And sometimes you close your eyes
and see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now here he comes

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young
(He talks like a gentlemen, like you imagined when)
When you were young

I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know

50 Hotties-50 States Delaware

So, 50 hotties/50 states in 50 days. That is the goal. The qualifier for the first run of this is that they have to be born in the state in which we are honoring and they have to be an actress of some type.

Today, we here at Philly Transplant, honor Elisabeth Shue, who was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1963. Now definitely a yummy MILF.

Pick Your Poison #2

A little bit late, but you could mix one of these bad boys up for Pops, if you were so inclined.

The Disney Kungaloosh

1 cup strawberry daiquiri mix
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup spiced rum
1/4 cup blackberry brandy

1. Toss it in a blender.
2. add enough ice to make it slushy.
3. Blenderize do not liquify.
4. You want slushy.

I got this one from recipezaar, a really good recipe website.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bacardi Volcano

1/2 juice of one lime
6 oz coca cola
4 oz light rum
2 oz everclear or vodka

put the lime juice and rum in a shaker with ice. Mix and then pour into a glass. Top with the coca cola and then stir lightly. Top with the vodka or everclear. If using everclear, apparently you can set it on fire. I don't reccomend it though.

Blog Poke

And when I say poke, I mean the Poke that you can eat in Hawaii and not the other kind of poke, you sickos! Poke is a thrown together fish dinner on the islands, though its one of the few things that we actually did not get to eat out there.

Moving on, before I get really hungry, it seems that I actually have to talk about everything that I mentioned, terrific.

Lets get the sports out of the way first. The US Open is this weekend in mens golf and it is up in Pittsburgh. Its supposed to be at one of the hardest courses in the country and so far Oakmont is living up to its reputation. Turns out, it wasn't Chris Daughtry that was the first round leader, but it was Nick Dougherty of England. And Anthony is right, he does look like a bit of a pretty boy. The way the second round is going though, I do not think we will be seeing his name up on the top of the heap after day two. Of course, what do I know about golf really, since I think I would have trouble breaking 200.

So, sports over with, we move on to Mrs Duck and her injured knee. She probably just bruised it or something, because when I was pressing down on her ligaments and such, she never recoiled in pain. But, yesterday she was pretty much laid up, possibly bored out of her mind. She says she hurt herself while looking for something underneath her desk. I say, sue the company then! But, she must be feeling a bit better, because as I speak she is outside sweeping. She gets bored very easily. But the walk six blocks from the train station to the office might have taken her hours or even days, so she wastes another sick day. That actually could be why she feels bored actually, since she has to get something accomplished somewhere.

We decided to skip the neighborhood picnic get together yesterday, mostly because the wife was worried about standing there in pain. But, typical of this place we rent from, anything they try to do usually ends badly. Like yesterday, the weather has been close to gorgeous or at least warm for the last 2 weeks, well except yesterday. It was grey, windy and about 65 degrees. Not exactly picnic weather. But, no matter, its not like we paid for our hot dogs and hamburgers. On second thought, we probably did or at least will in a beverage based rent hike.

On the workfront, I am back into another interview on Monday. Please, no wishing me good luck though, since this will be a recurring theme throughout the blog, so you would have to be wishing me luck every week or so. After a while that gets old and I am sure some of ya'all would be saying, "sheesh, Sparky can't interview worth a damn." Every time I get a call to come in, I am hit by this internal feeling of should I or shouldn't I. I always seem to find the bad things about a job, as opposed to the good or positive things. I usually work it all out in my head, though Mrs Duck certainly sped up the process yesterday with her pep talk. Eventually, it broke down into a nice way of saying "get your butt a job!"

Well, there ya go, nothing really that exciting. When you are a blogging duck, things do seem to get slow at times. Oh, as for dumping my brain, I think that happens almost everytime I start typing at this laptop. Though Tiff did tag me for a meme last week, I may have to dump that all over the screen soon.

And no, I am not trying to get pregnant!

So, What do You want to hear about?

Its not like their is tons of things going on in Philadelphia. Well, their is, but I totally missed the news making dinner, so I am at a loss. Of course, this means it is time to leave it up to the readers. Hence:

1.Do you want to know about Mrs Duck's knee injury that had her lounging around the house all day?
2.Or maybe you want to hear about us skipping the neighborhood picnic?
3.Hey, maybe its my hemming and hawwing over another job interview?
4.Or the fact that I think Chris Daughtry maybe be winning the US Open presently?
5.Finally, I could just let my brain loose. Be afraid, be ver afraid.

so there you go, you tell me what I write about tomorrow morning.

Thursday Thirteen #39- The God and Goddess One

ThirteenGods and Goddesses of Egypt

As I mentioned earlier in the week, the family had a little educational sojourn to the Franklin Institute to see the King Tut Exhibit. One of the things I learned was the fact that the Egyptian royalty believed in spells and higher powers to protect them and also help there transportation to the next life. I think they even had a Book of Shadows. So, I figured I would give a little something something about 13 Gods and Goddesses of Egyptian Mythology.

1.Ahy-God and protector of Musicians and Music. Maybe I can credit him for the Ipod.

2.Amentet-The god and protector of the setting sun. She is also the greeter, like St Peter in Catholicsm, and guide of those who have just crossed over to the afterlife.

3.Anpu-Originally the God of cemetaries, he was also thought to be the son of the Sun God, making him very powerful in the heirarchy. Later became the God of embalming and the guide to those of Northern Egypt when it came to death.

4. Atum-One of the nine deities of Egypt. He is believed to have been the physical creator of all things physically on the planet, through spitting or masturbation. I just wanted to find a way of working masturbation into a Thursday Thirteen.

5. Bastet-a cat goddess, she was the goddess of pregnant women and the patron for singing, music and dancing
. I purchased a necklace with Bastet in her cat form, as a way of trying to change my own luck. Even if it looks a little girly.

6. Wadjet-The serpent mother and protector of all of Egyp
t. One of the key goddesses in Egyptian culture. Depicted usually as a cobra, her representation is the one you see on the royal headdress.

7.Duanmutef-One of the four gods that helped protect the entrails that were stored in those little gold canopys. Duanmutef was the protector of the stomach, which was removed during embalming.

8. Hapi-The god of the Nile itself. Always depicted as a fat man wearing blue or green mud, based on the belief that he was the creator of the Nile. As opposed to the Blue Man Group, who were the creators of raves as Broadway shows.

9. Hektet-Another goddess of fertility. She was depicted as frog, because of the creation of tadpoles every spring. She was a goddess scene often in the magical texts and her amulets were given to pregnant women to protect them during childbirth.

10. Eset-Known as Isis in english and greek, she was the goddess of love, magic, motherhood and children. She is one of the oldest known goddesses and also the one that remained the most unchanged from the time of her first mention. A goddess that was not only worshipped by Egyptians, but also Romans and Greeks.

11. Nebthet-The goddess of the mastery of Magic.
She was said to be the protector and ruler of the open sands of Egypt. Known as the Lady of the House. Any time you give a woman that title, you know she is got some juice behind her. Its like calling a woman maam.

12. Re or Ra-The Sun God,
the big kahuna, the head honcho of all the gods and goddesses. Another of the deity of 9, he controlled the Sun, which controlled everything else. Became for a brief time the top of a sole god hierarchy that was instituted by the King just before King Tut. This theology failed.

13. Shesmu-The god of sinners.
Think of him as the Grim Reaper. It was his job to behead the sinners and make them pay for there trangressions under the order of Isis. Not exactly a shinny happy God.

Womens Lib comes to the track

Ok, maybe not, because we are talking about a horse here, not even a jockey. Over the weekend, Rags to Riches took the Belmont Stakes. It was the first time in over 100 years that a Filly has won this race and I think its only the third time period.

She is a beautiful horse, it even struck Tin Man as we watched the pre race to remark how truly gorgeous she is. But, she also had the breeding and the legs to run in that long of a race. Plus, I don't want to say I told you so, because I probably didnt mention it here, but I did remark to Mrs Duck that if I was betting, I would have put a good dose of my money down on Rags to Riches.

The race itself was very very slow until the end. The pace was pedestrian, almost like the horses wanted to crawl to the finish line. At the top of the stretch, Curlin, Hard Spun and Rags to Riches made their moves and Hard Spun had nothing left. With about 2 furlongs to go, Curlin made his last effort and Rags fought it off to take the Belmont by a head or so. A very exciting race that had me sweating. Sports does that to me sometimes.

It is being played up here in the United States as a very big deal, at least amongst people who pay attention to horse racing (which is not that many). In Europe, it would be something, but fillies are run against colts and stallions almost every week and their has to be some times when they win. But, I do know one thing, it sets up the possibility of a great Classic in October, with Curlin, Street Sense, Rags to Riches, Discreet Cat and maybe even Chelokee as entrants. Now, go google all those names to figure out what in the Godessess name I am talking about.

I Have been a Bad Boy

Or at least a bad blogger buddy. And yes, I put it just like that in the title so you would want to stop buy and see how bad Sparky can be. I say I have been bad because I have not been keeping up with my usual amount of posts, or even worse, I have not been able to stop by and visit you all. But, yes I said but, I have a good excuse.

I have been up to my elbows in inlaws. My sister in law, Doc, came up to visit us for the weekend and Doc, while I love her, is one of those people that you have to keep enterntained and active at all times. This is not exactly something that Mrs Duck and I excel at all the time. You should have seen the look we got when we said we took a nap Saturday afternoon.

So, the weekend was filled with Philadelphia activities, or at least activities that involved yours truly on Saturday and Monday, with Mrs Duck pitching in on Friday. A marathon shopping day in King of Prussia mall, one giant mall! I am actually glad I missed that one.

The jewel in the crown of the weekend was the trip to the Franklin Institute to get a peek at the King Tut exhibit. I have heard from other people that it was the B-List of artifacts included, but to me it was still very very cool. I did learn a few things.

-I never knew that they had so much wood in Egypt. Many things either had a wood case, or were made out of wood in general, like some of the Kings bowls and horns.
-Hieroglyphics are very pretty and Egyptians used lots and lots of them. The words were carved as a chance to protect them and conjure up spells for the after life, but it was also alot of work. Carving on the back of some medals as well as the front.
-I can't do IMAX movies. I did not find myself getting dizzy, but I did get a horrible headache type feeling behind my eyes, like they were over stimulated or something. I knew that the movie would do it to me, but I still bucked up like a typical guy and pressed on. That cost me a good hour and a half of pain. What? Im stubborn!

If you get the chance to see the tour, I would do it. One of the vessels that held Tutankhamun's liver was actually the most mesmerizing thing. I stopped for about 10 minutes and just stared at the gleaming gold as it glinted in the low lights. I so wish I could have gotten pictures.

Meatball TV

I, myself, have not watched the Sopranos for years now. The show got a little too violent for my tastes, plus it did not always make sense from week to week. But, its not too hard to keep up with this last season since everyone and their Uncle Sue seemed to be talking about it on the radio and TV. But, if you did like us and watched the last half hour so you could know what happened, try to find someone to ask for that half hour of your life back.

Oh no, we are never going to come back as a movie yeah right!
This is going to be it, I am so sick of playing Tony Soprano until your wallet is sicker of you not having any money

I am glad we have not spent years watching the final spiral of this show. You knew David Chase would not be able to wrap up every story line, but the main one would have been nice.

Pick Your Poison #1

As a public service and also to help you get your weekend kicked off in the right direction, we at Philly Transplant are going to post a couple of drink recipes every Friday. Not necessarily the drinks you have heard of like mojitos and margaritas, but something fun and different. 2 ounces equals one shot glass
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Shark
2 ounces Vodka
2 ounces Tequila
2 drops of tabasco

Mix in a glass and then drop and ice cube or two into a lowball. Sip and enjoy.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Limoncello Martini

2 ounces vodka
1/2 ounce limoncello
ice

stir together in a shaker and serve in a Martini glass. As with all martinis, shaken not stirred silly.

Salud!

Hey, a Home Remedy that worked!

Ok, I was a dope. I was cleaning up the dishes last night, rinsing out the pots after dinner. And I felt this itch in my ear. So, what do you usually do with an itch?? You scratch it of course. My mistake was planting a nice big droplet of water in my ear. Yes, the itch stopped, but what replaced it was this horrible ringing and these annoying clogginess thing. Oh and the echo too, which is just splendid!

Mrs Duck to the rescue. Her suggestion, from her girl scout or brownie days, was to pour peroxide down the affected ear and then drip it out. Now, this sounded nuts to me, peroxide always reminds me of the thing that sets a cut on fire! But, I trust my wife, and allowed her to funnel the peroxide in. Lets say it sounded like Snap Crackle and Pop were having a party in my ear.

But, I woke up this morning feeling terrific, hearing everything and not having that awful cotton head feeling. What's next, bees wax for my chapped lips? Echinacea for my allergies?

You Are 82% Feminist

You are a total feminist. This doesn't mean you're a man hater (in fact, you may be a man).
You just think that men and women should be treated equally. It's a simple idea but somehow complicated for the world to put into action.

And this one I got from one of the many Authors blogs I frequent, Christina D'Abo. I think I would be doomed.
