All you Bloggers out there Freaking Rock

Its amazing how $500 can go so easily!!! I am so proud to have been just a teensy tiny cog and proud of the people who followed me and the Island Woman over. I saw so many names I recognized. Bloggers Rule!

Sticking it for St Jude's

Sticky until New Year's Day, scroll down for up to date posts

And the sticking is corporate America. Well, its not really sticking it to corporate America since Empowering Youth Inc does not exactly seem to rank up with the Sunoco's, Walmarts and Rohn-Haas of the worlds, but you get my drift. Anyway, wander on over to Pass the Torch leave a comment and EYI will give St Jude's Children's hospital $1 for your work. Sounds easy doesnt it?

Hey, tell them Local Girl sent you, since she sent me and I dont really want to steal her thunder. Plus, I have enough games. So in the end, your helping 2 people out for the price of one. Now thats a bargain even!

Reheated Duck Soup Bowl #3

First some housekeeping:
Nice win by Rutgers in the Texas Bowl last night. They really proved that they should be a top 10 team by that performance. And the Heisman campaign for next year has already started. Ray Rice sent the first salvo, we shall see how Darren McFadden does in a day or two. By the way, that was the first win by Rutgers in a bowl game, which is remarkable because they have been playing football for over 100 years and there have been some pretty remarkable bowl games. Does anyone remember the Poulan Weedeater, Jersey, Cherry or Nutmeg Bowls? (ok I made the last one up). So, nice job SUNJ.

Now, I could say that I would have predicted all of todays winners, but I think I would be lying some. though looking at CBS Sportsline, I did go 2 for 3, not bad. And, while I knew Kentucky's QB Boyd was pretty good, how many people would have thought the Wildcats would have won?!?!?

So, set out, enjoy Purdue vs Maryland and Minnesota vs Texas Tech, they should be good games, though since they have already started, I am not going to give you this whole big blowhard rundown.

I will ask though, if you do read this post, wander over to Turnbaby at As The World Turns because her team pulled the biggest upset so far in bowl season and that deserves some kudos.

Thursday, December 28, 2006

Wow

34-10 Rutgers with about 9 minutes to go and the Scarlet Knights are still throwing the football. Nothing like thumping a big 12 team I guess.

Duck Soup Bowl Serving #2

Okay, I know I have been a tad neglectful when it comes to posting about these bowl games, but honestly, except for the Hawaii Bowl none of the games have been that watchable, but that changes today.

A quick shout to the Independence Bowl, which is pitting Alabama vs Oklahoma St against each other in about 10 minutes, so I am not going to go into a whole long thing about it. Alabama deserves to lose for firing Mike Shula

Now onto the setup for tonight

Pacific Life Holiday Bowl
9-3 Cal vs 9-3 Texas A & M

Big Wins
Cal-a half big win over and underachieving Oregon, the rest of there wins are fraudulent at best

Texas A&M-a 25-19 win over Missouri & a huge road win over Texas 12-7 which may have saved there coaches job.

Reasons to Watch-
1.Marshawn Lynch & DeSean Jackson- Marshawn Lynch is a bruising back who ran for over 1200 yards and DeSean Jackson is one of the best kick and punt returners in the NCAA's
2.The Aggies defense held Texas to 7 points and knocked the snot out of Colt McCoy.
3.Um, again, its San Diego, beautiful weather, beautiful vistas, beautiful people.

Prediction:
Aggies by 3

& dont forget about...

The 2006 Texas Bowl

7-5 Kansas State vs 10-2 Rutgers

Big Wins
Kansas State-a 45-42 win over Texas, when Texas was still dreaming of a national championship.
Rutgers-Rutgers thumped a bowl bound Navy 34-0 and pulled off a huge upset with a 21 point comeback to beat Louisville.

Reasons to watch-
Ray Rice-A Heisman trophy vote getter and Maxwell Award finalist is just a sophmore. He is a running back worth watching before he goes to the pros after next year. McFadden of Arkansas or Rice are the best running backs of 2006.
-Rutgers is the State University of New Jersey. The only reason I mention this is while I didnt go to school here, as a NJ resident, you always felt sorry for there football program, which was pathetic to the nth degree, so the fact that they are in a bowl game 2 years in a row is just shocking.
-Baby Girl is a fan
-Reliant Stadium is supposed to be very very nice.

Prediction:
Rutgers by 17

Both games are 8pm tonight, one on ESPN and one on the NFL network (though good luck finding the NFL Network if you have cable tv)

My Easiest Thursday 13 (number #15)

Thirteen Things Mrs Duck did get for Christmas

I know you all have been curious, so links provided where available.

1…. A white gold plumeria necklace She loved her silver one that she picked up in Hawaii,
so I had to get her an upgrade as well.

2. A lovely purple turtleneck sweater from Talbots. Total luck by the way,
they were having a nice sale.

3.The one thing I knew she wanted from Talbots was this Bucket Hat
in black

4.A Handheld Deal or No Deal game,
which by the way took me 4 Toys R Us trips to find

5.I think this maybe Mrs Duck's favorite gift. Well favorite fun gift at least.
Spice girl always said my wife had an old soul.

6.Some special slippers *cough Twlya cough*

7.Though this TV Show drives me nuts,
maybe this board game will give us some hints or something.

8. A Plumeria Sterling Silver Bracelet which took its sweet time
getting here from Hawaii

9.A kinda no brainer since real puppies arent allowed

10. A Pulsar watch with a pink face and little diamonds on it from Boscov's
where I think I got a good deal,
but now I dont want to look too closely at the prices.

11.Oh how could I forget the highly sought after Lucky Jeans,
apparently the only jeans that fit.

So I would say she made out pretty good didnt she??
And now to make it even more interesting, and to extend the list to 13 and beyond, here are some of my Favorite things

12. christmas 005
I Love Roller Coaster Tycoon, the saga continues.

13.christmas 004
My Favorite Long Sleeve T-shirt. I got two from Missouri, one black, one yellow.

13b. christmas 003
My cute little Idog, he dances and lites up.
If anyone ever sees an Icat, let me know I want em both.

13c.christmas 002
The smartest little video game ever

13d. christmas 001
My collection of College apparel grew with a great So Carolina Sweatshirt, a UTEP T Shirt and a Las Vegas Bowl T-shirt,
which went horribly as a game, by the way.

13e. As soon as I saw this I knew I wanted it. My belief in the Celtic spirits is growing day by day and even before all the "fun" with Kittie, I probably would have
wanted this. Though I must say, out of the whole list,
I wanted this medallion the most.

13f.Oh, and I cant share pictures of one of my other great gifts,
since its the one taking the pictures, a splendid new Kodak digital camera,
thats so small you forget its in your pocket.

So whatcha get??

Dont Know Much

At least when it comes to President Ford. I think that is actually one of the things about him that makes him different as a President actually. He never really wanted it, so he was one of those people who came in with an open mind, no real agenda. I know that he ordered the last of the troops out of Vietnam, pardoned Tricky Dick, and allowed his likeness and mannerisms to be used in some great comedic moments (Chevy Chase impersonations and a classic Simpsons episode) So enlighten me dear readers, because I am at a loss, beyond the stuff I can find on the internet.

Oh and President Ford did piss off Reagan, by defeating him in 1976, so thats aces in my book.

I must be nuts...

ok, thats too easy, no comments from the peanut gallery

But, i think I am actually feeling kind of down because Christmas is over. All the buildup I guess. Is that nuts or what? Anywho, I hope everyones Christmas was as fabulous as ours was, or even better then that even, that would be really cool.

On a side note:

Anthony, thanks, I didnt know that was the Cira building, though its better than calling it the shiny building that has taken forever to finish. And yes, Liberty Place, though I took the pic from the 1st floor.

Ho ho ho ya'all

Merry Christmas-Philly Style!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. I want to thank all my blogger buddies for letting me have a glimpse at their world, and for taking even the smallest peek at mine. I really appreciate all of you.

Scenes from the Supermarket

A conversation relayed to me by my father
Setting: A Supermarket in Texas, 2 days before Christmas

Dad:Looking for Christmas cookies in the cookie aisle
A female shopper: "You're going to get cookies just before Christmas?"
Dad:"Well, we don't have any in the house,so"
The Shopper:"What your wife is not going to make them for you???"

Dad relays the conversation to my mother later on.

My Mother's response: "Well, She should just mind her own (bleeping) business now shouldn't she"

Tagged in the Most Unusual Way

So, looking through my new little blogger toy Technorati, I see a link from a post I wrote a few days ago that was just absent minded babbling about Mary Carey. And lo and behold, it got me tagged, by Monks. And I thought his comment was spam. Turns out, its a Meme, and I will give 5 more people the same treatment. I guess its like throwing spaghetti on a wall, some of it will stick.

5 things you dont know about me, since if your tagged, Im a freaking stranger

1.Im a proud Blue Hen

2.I actually like a porn star or two, but Mary Carey isn't one of them

3.Its 1 am and in 14 hours my house will be filled with holiday fun, I should be sleeping

4.I would watch Wrestling on TV over Hockey on TV

5.Mice still scare the hell out of me, though less then it was, since I used to be pass out scared and now I am ewww scared.

Well lets see what comes up, or more like who. Oh and I am supposed to tag 5 people.

1. A Blue Hen

2. Isabella Snow Heck she has smut in her title of her blog, you have to know about porn stars then.

3. She spent 14 hours daydreaming about food. Oh and trollin craigslist

4. A bigger hockey fan then me. Like thats hard.

5.And a poor cat lover who got sucked into abandoned cats who were supposed to stop mice Though it seems like it will be much more trouble for her then the mice.

OK, my laptop is limping now, until next time...

a belated thank you

We just wanted to thank everyone of there well wishes and thoughts when it comes to our beautiful Kittie. I know that the good vibes everyone sent helped us to get through this difficult time, at least for now.

We could have been selfish and tried to drug her up to get through the holidays, but we just knew that was not what she would have wanted, especially since she was going blind in her other eye as well. I said goodbye to her the Wednesday before, or more like she said goodbye to me, since she when I climbed underneath the coffee table to lay with her, she bathed me in kisses. See, cats can kiss.

Everyone loved the little woman, and she would always just seem to know when you needed a kiss, or a laugh at her expense, even though she really really hated that.

This is my favorite Christmas picture of her, just because she seemed to just love sleeping and lying under the tree, like it was all about her or something. Though I guess when it comes to cats, its always about them isnt it?

We are going to get one or two more cats after the holidays, one for each of us, though no new kitten will ever be able to replace Princess Kittie.

A special shoutout to Lady Jane and Howie for the shout out.

So you want to date a porn star??

So, I was listening to Preston and Steve yesterday and they had a in studio guest appearance by the crazy porn star and dancer, Mary Carey. First off, she still sounded drunk from the night before, which always makes for great radio. But, during the interview, it came up in regards to her dating habits. The question was asked if her boyfriends get jealous, to which she said, because she only does lesbian scenes, they dont.

So, this got me to thinking, if you were dating a porn star, or even an exotic dancer, is it cheating if he/she is sleeping with the same sex. Now, one would think that if you date a porn star, you would actually understand that this is how they make there living, so it goes with the territory that they are sleeping with other people. The thing I found odd was that it would be ok to sleep with women, and not ok to sleep with men. Shouldn't it be all or nothing?

Thursday Thirteen #14-Christmas Lights!!!

Thirteen Pictures of Sparky's Christmas Lights

1. christmas 010
The Lights in the backyard, the stars sparkle and the net lights aren't bad to work with.

2. christmas 012
This is our reindeer, which is on its last legs, literally, see the front ones are out.

3.christmas 013
The luminaries, which have been nothing but a pain in the neck this year. These are a one and done decoration.

4. christmas 015
The front window and porch. You should really see how much it lights up the front yard.

5. Sparky's Frosty
The other newest addition, and this one is very very cool looking. It kind of sparkles, even if its not supposed to.

6. christmas 017
The view when you pull into a parking spot

7. christmas 019
Our row of homes is great, they all decorate and all kind of match in theme. This is the whole row, well sort of.

8. christmas 023
The tree in the dark, the lights flicker, thats not a hole.

9. christmas 024
The tree so you can see it. Notice the Oregon Cotton Bowl ornament, the Favre ornament, the many Eeyores, and the engagement box from 2 years ago now.

10. christmas 022
I love what Mrs Duck does to the mantle and the steps.

11. christmas 025
As you can see, Mrs Duck loves Snowmen. And Kittie's stocking will stay up in the middle.

12. christmas 001
A tree closeup

13. christmas 007
This is just a picture that I took at Mrs. Duck's office, just because I ran out of home Christmas pictures.

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

Horn Frog Stomp

So, it looks like yesterdays preview was pretty far off, though I did predict a TCU win, it seems based on looking at the recap from last nights Poinsettia Bowl that I was way way off on the laudeing of Garrett Wolfe. Oh well, cant be Jimmy the Greek all the time can you? Oh and thanks to Anthony for looking into the Horned Frog Mystery, a much better explanation then I would have gotten from ESPN

Duck Soup Bowl, Serving #1

ok, as a sort of public service to all of you out there that think the Sugar bowl or Orange bowl is something you put out for your company, I am doing a few little blurbs on some different bowl games coming up. I am going to try my darndest to do one for each game, though we will see. So, here's the first sip.

December 19, 2006

San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

TCU (10-2) vs Northern Illinois (7-5)

Remarkable wins:
TCU
-Texas Tech 12-3
Northern Illnois
-none

Reason to watch
1. Garret Wolfe The best running back you have never heard of. He holds 3 rushing and scoring records for Northern Illinois
2.Its San Diego, the weather has to be sunny and warm. Nice to see when most of us are socked in by the cold.
3.Someone can tell me what a Horned Frog is.

Prediction
TCU by 10

Kittie E Cat

She was my oldest friend. She always knew when I needed cheering up, protection, or when I was feeling ill. I am really going to miss her.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

A Food for Thought double shot

This used to be a Friday tradition, but really, as Friday's go, I think its hard to keep up with any kind of traditions. Especially a Friday close to the holidays. But, I will press on. Speaking of Holidays, My first recipe (yes there will be two) should be great for your upcoming Holiday dinner.

Brussel Sprouts with Pancetta
Giada De Laurentis of the Food Network

1 pound fresh brussel Sprouts trimmed
2 tablespoons olive oil (or EVOO as Rachael Ray puts it)
3 ounces of paper thin slices of pancetta coarsley chopped (i mixed Pancetta and bacon that I had left over from making the turkey)
2 garlic cloves, minced
Salt and Pepper to taste
3/4 cup low salt chicken broth

1.Partially cook the brussel sprouts in a large pot of boiling salted water for about 4 minutes and then drain and set aside for now.

2.Meanwhile, heat oil in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Add the pancetta and saute until it begins to crisp (i fried the bacon seperately and added it later on) about 3 minutes. Add garlic and saute until its a pale golden, about 2 minutes. Add the sprouts to the same skillet and saute until heated through and beginning to brown about 5 minutes or so. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then add the broth and simmer until the broth reduces just enough to coat the sprouts. (when using the bacon "bits" i added them with the sprouts) Serve.

see a piece of cake, well a pile of brussel sprouts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And, the back door on the double shot of recipes is perfect for the flu that seems to have been flying around. Who doesnt love chicken soup?? Especially when you have a cold. And your if in this house, the question should be who doesnt love avocados??!

Chicken, Avocado & Chipolte Soup
Cookshelf Mexican

6 cups chicken stock
3 garlic cloves chopped
1 chipolte pepper cut into thin strips (canned chipolte are easiest to find)
2 avocados
3-5 scallions (which I omitted since this was during the scallion green onion scare)
14oz chicken breast meat, cooked and torn or shredded
2 tablespoons cilantro chopped

1.Place stock, garlic and chipolte pepper into pot and bring to a boil

2.Meanwhile, cut one avocado in half, twist apart and pull out the green veggie from the outer shell. Mash the avocado flesh and mash up with a fork, add a few squeezes of lime juice and a dash of hot pepper sauce.

The recipe has this as step 3.
3.cut all the rest of the ingredients up and ladle some into a bowl, placing the warm broth over top and serve.

My step 3 since i like my soup mixed more

3.Chop chicken, cilantro, the other avocado, and 3 tomatotillos and drop them into the warming broth. Squeeze a little lime juice in as well and allow to simmer for a half hour at least, or until the biscuits are cooked. Place tortilla chips in the bottom of a bowl and serve soup over chips.

Oh and one last thing, to extend the meat some, I picked up a few coconut chicken tenders from the wing bar at our local Giant. I chopped them up and dropped them in a well, the coconut flavor went very well with the Mexican flavors. There was only serving as a leftover.

OK, theres my recipes, if anyone has any cookie recipes to share, im desperate!

Jim Rutz, Please come back, the Real World is over here

OK, I can not take credit for this, probably because I would not be caught dead reading anything at WND.com. But I appreciate Anthony for doing the leg work. Now for your reading pleasure and cooking issues, the arguement against Soy by Jim Rutz

Soy is making kids 'gay'

There's a slow poison out there that's severely damaging our children and threatening to tear apart our culture. The ironic part is, it's a "health food," one of our most popular.

Now, I'm a health-food guy, a fanatic who seldom allows anything into his kitchen unless it's organic. I state my bias here just so you'll know I'm not anti-health food.

The dangerous food I'm speaking of is soy. Soybean products are feminizing, and they're all over the place. You can hardly escape them anymore.

I have nothing against an occasional soy snack. Soy is nutritious and contains lots of good things. Unfortunately, when you eat or drink a lot of soy stuff, you're also getting substantial quantities of estrogens.

Estrogens are female hormones. If you're a woman, you're flooding your system with a substance it can't handle in surplus. If you're a man, you're suppressing your masculinity and stimulating your "female side," physically and mentally.

In fetal development, the default is being female. All humans (even in old age) tend toward femininity. The main thing that keeps men from diverging into the female pattern is testosterone, and testosterone is suppressed by an excess of estrogen.

If you're a grownup, you're already developed, and you're able to fight off some of the damaging effects of soy. Babies aren't so fortunate. Research is now showing that when you feed your baby soy formula, you're giving him or her the equivalent of five birth control pills a day. A baby's endocrine system just can't cope with that kind of massive assault, so some damage is inevitable. At the extreme, the damage can be fatal.

Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality. That's why most of the medical (not socio-spiritual) blame for today's rise in homosexuality must fall upon the rise in soy formula and other soy products. (Most babies are bottle-fed during some part of their infancy, and one-fourth of them are getting soy milk!) Homosexuals often argue that their homosexuality is inborn because "I can't remember a time when I wasn't homosexual." No, homosexuality is always deviant. But now many of them can truthfully say that they can't remember a time when excess estrogen wasn't influencing them.

Doctors used to hope soy would reduce hot flashes, prevent cancer and heart disease, and save millions in the Third World from starvation. That was before they knew much about long-term soy use. Now we know it's a classic example of a cure that's worse than the disease. For example, if your baby gets colic from cow's milk, do you switch him to soy milk? Don't even think about it. His phytoestrogen level will jump to 20 times normal. If he is a she, brace yourself for watching her reach menarche as young as seven, robbing her of years of childhood. If he is a boy, it's far worse: He may not reach puberty till much later than normal.

Research in 2000 showed that a soy-based diet at any age can lead to a weak thyroid, which commonly produces heart problems and excess fat. Could this explain the dramatic increase in obesity today?

Recent research on rats shows testicular atrophy, infertility and uterus hypertrophy (enlargement). This helps explain the infertility epidemic and the sudden growth in fertility clinics. But alas, by the time a soy-damaged infant has grown to adulthood and wants to marry, it's too late to get fixed by a fertility clinic.

Worse, there's now scientific evidence that estrogen ingredients in soy products may be boosting the rapidly rising incidence of leukemia in children. In the latest year we have numbers for, new cases in the U.S. jumped 27 percent. In one year!

There's also a serious connection between soy and cancer in adults – especially breast cancer. That's why the governments of Israel, the UK, France and New Zealand are already cracking down hard on soy.

In sad contrast, 60 percent of the refined foods in U.S. supermarkets now contain soy. Worse, soy use may double in the next few years because (last I heard) the out-of-touch medicrats in the FDA hierarchy are considering allowing manufacturers of cereal, energy bars, fake milk, fake yogurt, etc., to claim that "soy prevents cancer." It doesn't.

P.S.: Soy sauce is fine. Unlike soy milk, it's perfectly safe because it's fermented, which changes its molecular structure. Miso, natto and tempeh are also OK, but avoid tofu.

The Gift Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things I wont be Buying Mrs Duck

This was going to be the what Mrs Duck is getting for Christmas post, but she has started reading here, so, in a switch, its gonna be 13 things she wont get.

1….Anything from Tiffany's. Now I am not saying there won't be anything shiny or anything like that, im just saying I dont think my credit rating gets me through the front door of Tiffany's

2.Season Tickets to the 76ers. Though I dont think anyone is asking for those for Christmas.

3.A Fendi and Moncler Spy Bag Hello??? $2100?? For a purse where everything will fall to the bottom and get lost?

4.A gym membership. Unless it is something that is asked for, or the gift reciepient already has or expecets, this membership just has disaster written all over it. Mixed Message for sure.

5.A Lexus with a big red bow. Yes the commercials are cute, but how do you match that gift next year?

6.Power Tools. I think we would both stare at each other, unsure of what exactly one would do with an orbital sander.

7.A Table top Foosball Table from Sharper Image. Yes, it seems like the cheapest gift on the list so far, but Mrs Duck would wonder when we were opening the bar in the basement.

8.Sky Diving Lessons. She would run to check her life insurance because she would think I was out to do her in.

9.A subscription to the hot sauce of the month club Read the posts about the Chili and the Chicken with Mole Sauce below. Definetly more a gift for me, when it comes to Hot stuff, the Irish side of Mrs Duck shines through.

10.A backstage pass to a Bon Jovi Concert. I would be afraid she would run away with Jon and never come back.

11.The 2006 Totally Office Calendar. Mrs Duck turned me on to Preston & Steve since she was listening to them first on Y100, but I just dont think she would totally appreciate it.

12.A zero gravity space flight. You know they dont call it a Vomit Comet for nothing. Hey last minute gift needs, only $3000.

13.A Hacky Sack. Nothing says I love you like a little knit afghan filled with little beads.

So what arent you gonna buy this year?

Im not weird, im eclectic

My buddy Local Girl over at Island Life decided to tag me for this 6 weird things meme. Now first off, she lives in Hawaii, so there is no way she is local to me, but I digress. And, I prefer to think of myself as eclectic, as opposed to weird, since to me weird now adays is the norm anyway. So, here goes and then I get to lay out 6 other people, you lucky dogs you.

Oh yea, ya need the rules...

The Rules:

Each player of this game starts with the “6 weird things about you”. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says “you are tagged” in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

See, simple enough isn't it? And awayyyy we go....

1.I watch One Life to Live everyday. If I am not going to be home to watch it, I make sure the TiVo is set for either the 2pm ABC showing and/or the 2am Soap Network viewing. Though I do admit I dont watch the full hour, some of the plot lines just annoy me.

2. If I was 15 to 20 years younger, I would so be a Goth. This is strange because I am as close to a Prep as you can get without the sweater tied around my shoulders.

3.Mice scare me, like piss in my pants scare me.

4. The spice in our spice cabinet are in alphabetical order, seperated by things that are salty and spices that go in sweets.

5. I adore the Indigo Girls. This is probably weird because they are a duo that leans heavily to the lesbian population of the listening crowd. And i was a fan of theres 10 years ago, when they were full entrenched in the Rainbow flag cause.

6.I wish it was okay for guys to drink those fruffy fruity drinks out in public. You know the pink ones with the fruit and umbrellas. While none would ever top a dirty martini, the Wailea Sunset was so so refreshing. And who could resist a Pina Colada or a good Cosmo?? Hmm tell me, who who? Ohh Appletinis!

Yep, im eclectic. Now, what 6 brave souls shall I tag as even more "eclectic"?

wordnerd, jenny ryan, momish, buttercup & bean (either one), twyla (who found a great snow flake website btw) and finally old man hancock you lucky people you.

Still too hot to Handle

First off, ladies and germs, let me present Lady Jane's Scarlett Chili . Its possibly one of the most humorous recipes I have ever read, not that it takes much to have a recipe be humorous, but you get my drift. Its not like Mr. Food is a comedic genius or anything like that.

But, unfortunately, it was still too hot for Mrs. Duck. I tried my best not to get frustrated, since I had spent a decent amount of time preparing it and also had tweaked it to make it less hot, adding extra of the secret ingredient and using less hot pepper. Though I think I realize my mistake, I used Paprika instead of Chili Powder. To me, its all the same, but to some of those out there who are not heat lovers, it has to be different.

But anyway, try the recipe or at least read it cause it is humorous. Just dont blame me, I am only the messenger and I have already heard enough gruff for one dinner. Though, Mrs Duck does get a slight pass, shes sicker the Typhoid Mary.

Sad News and then useless information

There is nothing that annoys me more then the way the news channels fill us up with useless drivel then actually giving us the news. Action News on Channel 6 is really beginning to reming me of that awful Larry Mendte schlockfest on KYW, because while they tell a story, they dont really cover it. And when you think they are going indepth into something, its really just information that has been reheated and reserved to us again like some sort of leftover.

Case in point. A teenager shot himself at Springfield High School today. Its really quite sad, because it was obvious that this was agood kid that really was just trying to get a little noticed for his death, instead of turning it into a shootout at the OK Corral. But, after the 1st story, which gave all the details, they went into this piece about signs for your teenager possibly having suicidal thoughts. Some of these include...

-Frequent Sadness
-including writing and reading poetry with morbid themes
-listening to music with nihilistic tendencies
(ok this annoys me because most of the poetry I had to read as a kid was about death and morbid in its theme. Look at most of the things Shakespeare wrote. Plus, Alanis Morisette was not exactly happy happy joy joy when she sang and her last hit was 10 years ago.)
-Change in appetite and sleep patterns
(what teenager doesnt sleep all day when he or she can, and skip the big breakfast so they can get to the mall and get themselves hopped up on Starbucks lattes)
-Boredom/low energy
(I was bored every single day of my life, and I lived in the suburbs, imagine what those poor kids out in the boonies used to have to deal with)
-difficulty with relationships
(yep, thats a sure sign of depression, and not hormones. Little Katie was getting a smile from the starting QB, thats why she dumped you Stewie, it has absolutely nothing to do with you being depressed)
-Feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness and helplessness
(ok, finally, this is a sign of depression for anyone)

Hello, life of a teenager!!!

So, instead of doing a story about why Springfield High School has had not one, but two incidents with guns, they do a follow up story that will guarantee to rile up the parents out there, especially the ones that cant read there kids. If my mom was up in my business all the time and checking up on me when I was a teenager, that would lead to depression.

Please Action News, leave the waste of a half hour to KYW-3

The Awesomely Awesome Local Girl is hosting a Christmas Tree Contest over at her blog, and yours truly is entered this year. Richmond VA, Christmas Capitol of the World??

So, Mrs Duck and I were watching the Crazy Christmas light show on TLC. I am sure it will be repeated many many times, so, dont worry if you have missed it. Anyway, besides the slightly stoned guy in Palm Springs, it was all about Richmond, Virginia. Apparently, they even have a website dedicated to there Christmas craziness. So if you are below the Mason-Dixon line, you may want to check out The Tacky Light Tour which lists all of these Christmas Crazies that put up hundred's of thousands of lights in the yard, starting 3 months ahead of time. Oh and did I mention the Deputy Sheriff of Henrico County who has been named Mr Christmas. He runs his own low watt radio station that does a breakdown of each light display that makes the tour.

Mrs Duck will not allow me to go that nuts, and truthfully, I dont really think I can, well at least not yet, since we do have to pay for electricity, but still rent, so I cant have a 65 foot inflatable Santa on the roof. And yes, I said 65 foot.

A Post to imrpove " the "holidays".

Jay over at Kill The Goat has always been quite funny, bitingly funny even, but this time she has taken the cake, though not the fruitcake. She has kindly pointed out some holiday Traditions that may have used up there time in the spotlight.Kill The Goat: What I "like" the "best" about the "holidays". While I dont agree with it all, I was laughing my arse off in disagreement.

Carnival Shocker

Yes, me made the cut again, which I must say was a tad surprising to me, since I did not think my entry was mundane enough. But, go check out The Random Yak » The Carnival of the Mundane - What’s Under Your Tree? to see what other surprises the Mundane Fairy has left for everyone else.

Those freaking Colorgenics

Well holy cow, I must say, little color boxes are kind of scary! The last two paragraphs especially really hit me on the noggin. Thanks to Tug for finding this very very interesting little test. Try it for yourself. ::: The Amazing World of Colorgenics :::

The idea of togetherness, love, warmth, tenderness and mutual understanding fascinates you but you seem to be embarrassed by the thought of allowing this to appear openly. It would appear that you employ a cautious exploratory tactic in the pursuit of this objective, making sure that you are neither irrevocably committed nor found out.

You are very self-sufficient and methodical. You presume to know where you are going but need to find a person who will recognise the way you are, not be too demanding and who is, as they say in Italy, 'Simpatico'.

The way things are at this time it is necessary to 'go slow'. All the pleasures that you have anticipated should be left in abeyance until some future date, but all is not lost, you are able to derive and achieve considerable gratification from someone quite close to you.

All of the stress and strains resulting from disappointment have led to agitation and anxiety. You have been going out of your way to make a good impression, but you have reservations as to the likelihood of succeeding. You feel that you have a right to accomplish all that you set your mind on but you have become helpless and distressed when circumstances have gone against you. The idea of failure is most upsetting and this can even mean utter dejection. You see yourself as a scapegoat and you feel everyone in your sphere of influence has tried to take undue advantage of you. You are trying to convince yourself that your failure to achieve standing and recognition is not of your making but indeed of those around you.

You are moody and depressed at this time but it will pass. All of your hopes and dreams seem to have gone astray and you are fearful of planning further for the future. Disappointment at the non fulfilment of your hopes and the fear that to formulate fresh goals will only lead to further setbacks have resulted in considerable anxiety and you try to escape from this by withdrawing into yourself. But that is not the answer. You have the power to succeed, believe in yourself... all is possible to him who believes.

Princess Update

So, we have for now decided upon running the steroids. We will see how it goes. Its really more about her quality of life, whether she is able to get around without taking breaks every three steps, eating, and not falling down in the litter box (which she did today before the Roids). I may have to start calling her Berry Bonds.

I want to thank everyone for the heartfelt and kind words. You dont know what they have meant to me and Mrs Duck. No matter how seperate and distant we all are, I still love my blogger friends for coming together for my little girl.

A little YuleTide Cheer

One of my favorite daily reads, An Island Life is holding a Christmas tree decorating contest, so I am throwing my tree topper into the ring this year. Though these are not the best pictures, I may try to add another when the room is darker and all, its still a great tree. If you look in the upper right hand corner of the first picture, you will see the egagement ornament. Its the box that I placed on the tree when I was proposing to Mrs Duck, which she took almost 2 days to find. The other interesting thing about the tree, besides the huge proportion of snow men, is the fact that there are alot of airplane ornaments. This is strange, because I am a chicken when it comes to flying, yet I started this collection from Hallmark about 7 years ago and I just keep collecting.

So, vote, dont vote, but if ya like the tree, throw me a virtual gingerbread cookie in the comments section.

The Princess

Scroll downwards for my Thursday 13 but, if you want to read, please feel free, im not forcing ya either way.

We got the news yesterday that I deep down already knew for a week or two now. My little princess that I have had for 13 years or so now has cancer. She has growths in her small intestine, liver, and kidneys, as well as something growing into her left eye/head. So now, we don't really know exactly what to do. The vet's keep pushing steroids for her, though I dont know if that is really the best option. She has done alot of sleeping, cant get around that well, and definetly can't see out of that left eye. So, will steroids really help to manage all that pain? And how much time will it really buy us, since people at the clinic and online are saying only a few weeks.

Red offered to take her to the vet if we wished to put her down, which I really must say is an extra ordinary gesture on her part, since she knows Mrs Duck would have a rough time and I do not know if I could actually do it.

I don't want her to suffer, she has always been there for me through thick and thin, so I am not sure if steroids would just be selfish. Though I will say, she still Loves her rubs.

Thursday Thirteen #12

Thirteen Things about Sparky's Fridge

Its been a long week here, so hopefully you will all excuse my lack of imagination. But I knew I could find 13 things that might be a little different that are in our fridge. We all know we have butter, milk, eggs and leftovers tucked in every corner of the thing, but I wonder what else we will find.

1…. Thai Kitchen Red Curry Paste-I love Thai food and indian food, so this naturally fits in my fridge. We dont go through it too much though since a little goes a long way.

2. Twinnings Wild Blueberry Martini Mix-Not only does this stuff go great with vodka, its also nice and smooth with Bourbon, though you do use less then you would for a Martini.

3.Haddon House Liquid Smoke--I dont have any idea how long I have had this stuff, but I do know when I dont use it in a recipe that calls for it, the lack of it makes a difference.

4. Coffeemate Eggnog Flavor Creamer-We look forward to the holidays, because this stuff comes out and it does make you feel a little festive in the morning.

5. Jones Soda Pink Berry Soda--Mrs Duck will tell you I love love love Jones Soda. This stuff is Raspberry and Cream flavored, though honestly part of the reason I bought it is for the color. It was pink and created for Breast Cancer month in November. Yummy.

6. Three different cans of cat food-Kittie is sick, but she still is able to get up and demand her variety of foods. One day she will love the liver and chicken, the next its trash. So we have a few rotating flavors between Science Diet and Merrick. (BTW-I, the owner, love Merrick, very natural ingredients)

7. World of Flavor Maui Mountain Teriyaki Sauce-If your recipe ever calls for gyoza sauce or something asian thats not teriyaki sauce or soy sauce, use this. Nice different flavor.

8. Powerade Jagged Ice Flavor-This has become my favorite flavor of the Sports Drinks. Its not really grape and its not really berry, its sort of in between. Just be careful what you are wearing if you drink straight from the bottle, since it does not go well with white.

9. Turkey Hill Egg Nog-The Kitties special treat. She still is able to raise her head and smell around like a wildcat when this stuff is presented to her in a saucer. And we love it with a shot of bourbon, so everyone's happy.

10. Turkey Hill Green Mango Tea-Its better then just the regular green tea, though I cant really put a finger on it. Though I do think they found the closest to real mango flavor.

11. Berkeley & Jensen Minced Garlic-- A nice big jar. Not only does it save me a step when it comes to cooking, since mincing garlic can be dangerous on the fingers, but its not something I have to get at the store everytime I go, since most of my recipes call for it.

12. Acme Brand Bread and Butter Pickle Chips- This was my "im intune with my wife moment" I never knew that these were her favorite pickles, though I knew she loved them. It was the sweetest OHHHHH when I pulled out that jar for our burgers.

13. Deans Guacamole Dip--Not as good as real homemade guacamole, but a heck of alot easier!

Something to get you thru

am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and the heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
and you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone

I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

Gee can ya tell I might feel a bit heartbroken?

The Humbling Experience that is Fantasy Football

As I have mentioned a time or two before, I am in a fairly competitive fantasy football league. Its with a bunch of the Senator's college buddies, and then a few friends from other sources, a brother here, a husband of a wife there. And one thing I can say as this season has wound down, its very easy for this little game to make you feel like a genius and an idiot all within 24 hours. Who knew something like this was possible, annnnddd, you get to pay for the humiliation too!

This past set of games, I played the pictured DeAngelo Williams against the Eagles. It seemed like a sound decision, based more on a hunch then on any kind of input, since alot of the input I found was telling me to play someone else. Williams blew up statistically yesterday, outscoring all my other players, and having possibly one of the best days points wise for a running back over the entire weekend. See Genius!

Of course, I was trailing by 18 points going into last nights game, and here is the idiot moment. I played Joe Horn, even though he had been gimped by a pulled groin, and had been questionable all week. My gut was telling me, play someone else, though my brain was saying your other two options were chumps. Horn went for 1 catch for 13 yards and pulled his groin again and my two bench WR's I had to choose from had good enough days that I would have won easily last night as opposed to losing by 3.

Yep, pass the dunce cap this way please.

What Tarot are you?

I am not sure if this is good

You are The Devil

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession

The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan" at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

Weekend Capper

1. Nothing like hurricane force winds to do a nice bit of damage to your outside Christmas light display. We had a few casualties, the front legs of the snacking fawn have seemed to gone out for good and the swirly white Christmas tree is just a big sail, which is not good since we arent on a boat. Ever been to the beach and seen those flying umbrellas? Picture that with white lights.

2.The Army Navy game was actually a game into the fourth quarter, which is something different in comparison to the last few years, maybe the Black Knights are improving.

3.The BCS got it wrong, but thats ok, when Florida loses by 40, everyone will see how wrong they truly got it.

4.This being a pet owner can be very stressful and heartbreaking. Kittie is still lame in one of her front legs, not to mention the other masses that they have found, which I think I always knew about anyway. Mrs Duck will be a mess, which means I cant be, though we are going to just let the Kittie rest and see if the gimpiness improves, since theres not a thing I can do about her other problems. It would be nice if she was hoppy again though.

5.I dont think I saw one football game yesterday until the 8:00 game last night. Now, even for me, thats weird.

6.I have to do my wish list today, since it is now later then promised, though I would have rather have been doing that then spending Sunday's at the vet hospital.

Rutgers might have won....

If they had the referees from the Auburn vs LSU game

On a sidenote, I hope Florida plays Ohio State for the National Championship, so they lose by 50 points.

Hottie Overload-Army & Navy Cheerleaders

Technically this is hottie post #9, but I have been a bit lax in my posting on this subject, though I think I have had some more note worthy posts in its place. Anyway, in honor of the big game in Philly today, here's some good looking women who could also probably kick my butt!

Go Navy beat Army!!

Friday Feast #5

And its Friday Feast number 120 overall, wow they have been doing this a while. Ok onward...

Appetizer
Have you ever flown in a helicopter? No, not even in Hawaii. The closest I have ever been to a helicopter is watching one on Magnum P.I.

Soup
What color is your warmest coat or jacket? My warmest coat is probably my brown leather bomber jacket type thing, though its not as warm as I would like.

Salad
What is your favorite rainy day activity? That depends, in the fall its watching football and running the fireplace. In the summer is reading as many books as I can cram down.

Main Course
Describe your hands. People have always said that I have the hands of a piano player. Very long fingers, which is helpful for lotsa things :) My hands themselves are kind of soft, not really outside, Craftsman's hands, but there not girly either. I dont know there hands.

Dessert
If you could eat only one nut for the rest of your life, what nut
would you pick?
Hmm, tough one, if were saying just nut and not things with nuts it would be a macadamia. If it had to be only nuts in everything, it would be peanuts. I love peanut butter.

Join in the fun...

Sometimes cats are just like kids

Well, not kids persay, but like babies, since they can't tell you exactly what is wrong with them. Yesterday morning, Miss Kittie was feeling fine, old, but fine. Yesterday afternoon she was limping all over the place on her front right paw/leg. I mean, its not broken, since when she has to, she can get around, though not that good. So, we rushed her off to the vet, and they told us that she probably has arthritis in her shoulders, though I think its something more then that, like a pulled muscle, sprain, etc.

She is now hiding under the tree as we speak, which I dont see as a good thing. Don't they go to hide when things are bad or something like that? I am trying to stay positive, but I still have this problem gnawing at me that things are not going to end prettily. Le Sigh
