Halloween Hotness #5

Starr your resident Vintage Goth here, and today I am taking a bit of liberty with my final choice of Halloween/Gothic Hotness. It's more a group effort. Ladies, Gentlemen, Transexuals... I bring you the male cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

First up Baby Eddie Who Didn't Love His Teddy. LOVE. HATE. Greaser Hotness! And Dr. Scott...or should I say Dr. Von Scott! He's fusty, he's in a chair, he rocks a garter!

Willkommen!

Who can forget the resident A-Hole of Denton? Brad Majors. Check out those...glasses!
Frank spent 7 days to make a man and this is what he has to show for it.

And last but, never ever least, we have Riff Raff and Dr. Frank N Furter. Friends. Enemies, Frenemies. Riff with his flowing blonde locks and mobile, side swapping hunchback and Frank with his fierce fashion sense. Who else could have pulled off those pink gloves. Work it, Frank!

Now, I was supposed to come up with something, some hotness that could match the amazing specimens that are the men of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now, while I will throw up a Christina Ricci picture.

For my money there is no way she compares with the cult schtick that is Rocky Horror, even if shhhh, I do not like the movie.

I just hope everyone had a safe Halloween and I want to thank Starr for her participation. I think she may just stay on here as a contributor, just because she brings that extra special ummph.

Barkaween

We here at Philly Transplant do not condone the mistreatment of animals in any way shape or form.

That being said, Mrs Duck sent a really funny video that I just have to put up here. Dogs are probably known as mans best friend because they put up with so much BS from there owners.

Halloween Pimping

One of my blogger buddies is up for one of those Vote for this book awards. Its the fall 2007 Night Owl Romance awards and I would really appreciate if my faithful readers went over and voted for Lisa Andel in the last category. You don't have to sign up for anything, just pick a name from each category. In fact looking it over, there are a few bloggers that I read up for awards, so I might as well mention them too.

Mandy Roth is nominated in the Best Ebook Paranormal Romance Category (#2)
Selena Kitt is nominated in Ebook Sci/Fi Romance (#5)
Portia De Costa is up for a win in Best Ebook Contemporary Erotics (#9)
And certainly not least, Lisa Andel is nominated in the Best Ebook Paranormal (#10)

So go vote, its the last day today!

Halloween Hotness #4

I am getting all musical on you tonight, as we continue with the Halloween Hotness special. Amy Lee is the lead singer of Evanescence. Ok to be correct, she is the lead singer as well as the only original member still in Evanescence. But I think she is absolutely gorgeous.
Of course, part of that is probably bias, since I think her voice is especially haunting as well, which makes her even more beautiful.
The other thing that makes me love Amy and the band in general, is the fact that she seems to love Philadelphia. Some of the best Evanescence bootlegs I have found, are ones recorded in the city of Brotherly Love. Plus, there amazing live album, recorded at the TLA!

Now Starr is going to say that Amy is not really gothic. She is sort of a pseudo gothic sell out thing, but hell I do not care. I adore her and I think she is perfect for this little shindig.

Plus, she has a online paper doll collection, how cool is that??

The doll collection is pretty cool, and Amy is far more Goth than most folks claiming to be. And I like their music. Call Me When You're Sober is stellar.

Speaking of stellar today I bring you Stuart Townsend. Let me go on record as saying, I KNOW Queen of the Damned was a weak movie that took far too much liberty with Anne Rice's plots.

I don't care. Consider it my version of buying Playboy for the articles, mmk?

Stuart is ridiculously hot as a vampire and I think got the tone of Lestat so much better than that couch jumping little freak Cruise. He wears black leather really really well. Really well. Yup.

In addition to that he played Dorian Gray in League Of Extraordinary Gentleman and Dorian is a product of the fevered imagination of Goth favorite Oscar Wilde.

He's played The Nightstalker, the naked hot chef on Will and Grace, and a fun little movie with Kate Hudson called About Adam. In which, he gets to showcase his secret weapon. His Irish accent.

/swoon!

Sadly, Stuart is taken by Charlize Theron. She's not quite Angelina Jolie but she is darn close. And so far out of my league. Gotta box your weight, and that girl is smoking. Now if he ever leaves her...watch out Stuart I am coming for ya!

If you get Stuart, can you whisper in his ear to give Charlize my email address? I have never heard of Stuart Townsend, though it does not mean that he does not have that certain English class that is easily swayed into Goth. The last picture, scary sexy. Like I am gonna kick your ass and then take your woman.

Quizzical Duck

First we have this little ditty from Lisa Andel's site.

if John Cusack is starring, I like the idea...

The Movie Of Your Life Is An Indie Flick

You do things your own way - and it's made for colorful times.
Your life hasn't turned out how anyone expected, thank goodness!

Your best movie matches: Clerks, Garden State, Napoleon Dynamite

Yep, another one from Andel, I knew I wasnt scary.

You Are Not Scary

Everyone loves you. Isn't that sweet?

Halloween Hottness #3

As we continue our little sojourn around the goth world of hotness, I am going way way off the reservation with my choice today. It is inspired by an email that Starrlight sent me last week with a link to a bunch of models that I find hot. Of course I would find them hot, they are models, but they were all hot in a gothic sort emo way.

Now I said inspired, not taken directly from the site, which can be found by asking Starrlight, since I have seemed to have lost the link. If you pay some attention to my rantings and ravings in the last oh, 18 months, this selection might be a tad familiar.

Serena Star is a model from Philadelphia. She was Miss Irish Pub or something like that this past St Patricks Day, and she is a Preston & Steve girl, a popular radio station here in Philadelphia. Actually a radio station I listen too.
serena2

But, to me, she is also the person I picture when I am reading my Rachael Morgan novels, by Kim Harrison. I love these books, about a witch, a bisexual vampire and a wise cracking fairy who team up to banish demons. serena3I am one of those readers that needs to picture my heroes and while I have always had Ivy, the vampire down cold with the image of Lexa Doig, I never had Miss Morgan pegged, until Serena Starr came along.

Though, after looking at this final picture, I think I might have a new idea for Ivy in mind, if I knew who the brunette was.

serena4

Be sure to check out Serena Star's website, she has alot of great shots and links to other ones that have that pesky copyright on them. And now I hand off the reigns to my other Starr.

Well since Sparky asked so nice and was suitably happy with the visuals, I'll post the link to the Goth Model site which is called Nocturnal Models. Just a note, these girls are goth/fetish models. You might want to peek before the kiddies get a look. Yea, watch some of those pictures, especially the piercings. Well unless you have that fetish. That said I have only one thing to say for my choice today.

He's Batman.

Better known to you and I as Christian Bale. Ah Christian, how I do lust thee. Let's count the ways shall we?

Batman is the ultimate Goth Superhero..bat's, dark cave, tragic background and an all black wardrobe. Check check and pass the absinthe. Christian plays him with such perfect low key restraint and a tragic air. Which is in total contrast to the over the top blackly funny psychopath he played in American Psycho. Plus he totally starved himself down to play the character in The Machinist. It may not have been hot, but starving for your art is oh so very Goth.

You know it must be hard to be covered in blood and still look hot. As he said in American Psycho, "dont just stare at it, eat it"

Canadian Poetry Train

If you know me well enough, you know my love for Sarah McLachlan. She has that haunting charming voice and she is not one of those singers that really puts out a song that is a nonsensical pop thing. Almost all her songs have some sort of meaning, though to be honest, I am not completely sure what the song Ice Cream is about.

But, today for Rhian's Poerty Train, I give all of you a peek at Stupid. This song can speak to you on so many levels, from the love mistakes, to life mistakes, to the mistake of leaving a cake in the oven too long.

Stupid

Night lift up the shades
let in the brilliant light of morning
but steady there now
for I am weak and starving for mercy
sleep has left me alone
to carry the weight of unravelling where we went wrong
it's all I can do to hang on
to keep me from falling
into old familiar shoes

how stupid could I be
a simpleton could see
that you're no good for me
but you're the only one I see

love has made me a fool
it set me on fire and watched as I floundered
unable to speak
except to cry out and wait for your answer
but you come around in your time
speaking of fabulous places
create an oasis
dries up as soon as you're gone
you leave me here burning
in this desert without you

everything changes
everything falls apart
can't stop to feel myself losing control
but deep in my senses I know

Halloween Hotness #2

Ohh..the Duck and I are Slackers! Here it is Sunday and no hotness for you fine folks yet. Today we start off with the guys. And my second choice is Mr Movie Star Goth himself, Johnny Depp. Johnny is Goth in the old school, doing my thing, not really caring what others think of him kinda way. That and the handy Tim Burton association. So much attention these days is on Capt Jack (and rightly so as that is one great character) that it is easy to overlook some of his, shall we say, darker works.
His Willy Wonka was much more in tune with the book and not at all benign, Edward Scissorhands is the epitome of Gothic Outsider, Secret Window was a fine adaption of one of King's better stories.
The somewhat sleazy bookdealer to the devil in The Ninth Gate, providing voice work for Corpse Bride, the truly gothic Inspector Abberline of Jack the Ripper Fame in From Hell, and the upcoming murderous Sweeny Todd are all fine Goth flavored fare. And last but not least, his work as Ichabod Crane proved you could be pale and a scaredy cat...and still be damn hot!
PS...head to Oh Johnny for these and other, oh so very yummy pictures. Someone should buy that girl a drink for the service she provides!

Somehow I knew it was going to be a Johnny day. If you are going to be a slacker, better bring your A game around. And I have not been slacking, I just have been, yea um, hmm researching, yea thats it researching. Though I freely admit, that if I could not find some way to infuse the coolness of George Clooney into my body, I would take the smoldering look and quirkiness of Johnny Depp really quickly.

And all that work brings me to Rose McGowan. Now, Rose was a member of the Halliwell family, the 3, 4 or 5 Witches in the show CHARMED. It really depends on when you watched the show. And while for sheer sex appeal, the character Alyssa Milano played could have been considered sexiest, hottest, Rose McGowan's Paige would fit in nicely if we are going for Halloween/Goth hot! And she was smoking.

And then there was the Manson factor. I actually remember first knowing who Rose was thanks to the fact that she was dating the misunderstood, yet freaky looking Marilyn Manson. Manson has talent, but he still looks weird as hell, so it sort of dragged Miss McGowan into the freaky weird area as well.

Alright, that last picture is sorta freaking me out, lets end this on a good note.

A Weekend In Philly Tag

Last week, though perhaps it was two weeks ago by now, Kailani over at an Island Life tagged me for a weekend in your city meme. I loved it because she did Honolulu and dangnabit when I hit the Lottery I am getting a house there, right next to Keanu's. Unfortunately, no power ball numbers this week, so I guess I just get to do this meme. And of course, I am gonna tag some folks, so look at below.

Of course there are rules, answer the questions, tag 5 people and then go off on your travels to there hometowns. The hardest part is that you can only give one answer for each of the questions. No ties, which sucks.

Best Place to Eat:
You would think this would be a hard one, hell, Philadelphia is a major metropolitian city. However, in most places the drinks are great and the food is eh. Chains are popular. So while Mrs Duck and I are Carraba kinda people, I will nominate Roy's on 15th Street in Center City. Its our anniversary place, its the place we usually take out of towners who wont be around again for a while and it transports you back to the Islands. Roy's pulls off a tough trick, transporting you out of Center City, at least with your tastebuds.

Best Shopping Mall
-Ok we are only going to sort of cheat here, since the mall at King of Prussia is not really in Philadelphia, but it is within a good driving distance. This mall is actually two malls connected to each other, and is on 2 levels.

By the way, the map only shows one half of the mall, there is a whole other half. Which is why there is always one holiday shopping trip up here.

Famous Landmark
:Okay, do not tell me that you do not know that the Liberty Bell is here. Good gravy its the Liberty Bell!

Best Tourism Attraction:Well, once you are done with the Liberty Bell, which will honestly take you 10 minutes, you could mosy on down to the Constitution Center. Its one of the best historical things in the City proper. Not only are there life like models of all the signers of the Constitution, there is also one of 5 original copies and usually a changing display in another museum section. In fact, we went to see the First Ladies exhibit a few weeks back because Mrs Duck just loves Jackie O.

Best Place for the Kids:Yep, another Museum, but this time one that they will probably like. The Franklin Institute is also in Center City Philadelphia and is a cool museum because they really want the guests to touch things. Its one of those scientific museums, with all about the heart and electricity and wind, etc etc etc. The just had the King Tut exhibit close and trust me, when we went, it was overrun with school kids.

Popular Outdoor Activity
: Hmm tough one, though I can say that the rowing down the Schuykyll seems to be very popular. You wont catch me doing it, but it does seem popular.

Breathtaking Views
:The Pyramid Club in the Mellon Bank building. Ok, I have never seen it, but Mrs Duck has and raves about it everytime we go past the old Mellon Bank Building. Its a private club, so you and me will just have to guess on how good it looks, but Mrs Duck did get to collect some perks for working for a big time corporation.

Only found in Philadelphia: One word my friends, Tastykake.

Thanks for visiting and now 5 suckers that get tagged:

1.Bond's Big Leather Couch (how often will we read the word Elvis)
2.Rhian, the Creative Goddess
3.Amy Ruttan
4.One Gals Musings
5.Interstellar Adventures

Halloween Hotness #1

This is a first for Philly Transplant, the blog, because not only will we have a guest author, but it will be a joint post, no less. Starrlight of Here Comes a Storm is joining over here for a little Hottie fun.

In case you had not noticed, Halloween has taken a turn towards sexy. Of course it takes a turn towards sexy when I am not allowed to really look at the sexy, but that is another post altogether. So leading up to Halloween, there will be one hot guy and one hot girl a day listed here, one of my choosing and one of my favorite Gothic bloggers choosing.

My selection today is Fairuza Balk. She is of The Craft fame, but just has that Gothic, exotic look. Or at least she did when she was younger. Now that she has gotten older, she looks a bit more glamorous, which to me actually makes me think she is not as hot as she used to be. Amazingly, with a name like Fairuza, she was actually born in California. Fairuza means turquoise in English. The various parts of her heritage show in her exotic looks, her parents were a belly dancer and a folk Musician, so you know she just had to be kooky growing up. But, this is my kind of kooky.

Ooh..good choice, Sparky! Fairuza definitely has it going on. I can see her dancing in a cobweb brushing manner. And thank you for the invite to partake in some All Hallow's Hotness.

My choice for today is the poster boy for Goth Hotness, Brandon Lee. Brandon was the son of Martial Arts legend Bruce Lee and was on his way to solid career when he tragically died during the filming of The Crow. Now I admit, I am a huge Crow Fan and Brandon in full Crow regalia is just about as hot and Gothy as a guy could be. But he wasn't half bad au natural either!

And Drum Roll and Ice Pack please.....

Ok then...I think I could use a cold one. And remember, Buildings Burn, People Die, But Real Love Is Forever.

Where's my Sisters of Mercy tape??

Now, a deceased hot actor, who died to soon, who also happens to be the son of another cult figure actor who died to soon, if that does not scream Halloween, I don't know what does. Of course, there is a part of Brandon Lee in his full Crow Regalia that reminds me of Sting from WCW, but hey, its not my choice.

Thursday Thirteen #54-The Witch One

Thirteen Famous Witches

Here is the prerequisite Halloween themed Thursday Thirteen, as we focus on well known witches. And amazingly, not everyone of them is hot.

1. Ann Boleyn-Henry VIIIths second wife, she was beheaded, ostensibly because the king was sick of her. But she was called a witch because she could not bear the King a son.

2.Isobel Goldie-Living in the 1600's, it is said that she had wild sexual escapades with the devil who had initiated her into the art of witchcraft. She confessed this several times but many thought that it was just a story she had made up and that it was just a game that had gotten out of hand. She was probably hung.

3.The Three Witches from Macbeth- They created evil magic in their cauldron to encourage Macbeth to kill the King and seize the throne.

4.Medea- In Greek mythology helped her Husband capture the golden Fleece. She committed several murders including those of her own children.

5.The Witch of Sleeping Beauty
-A story written by the brothers Grimm. The plot revolves around a beautiful young princess who pricks her finger on a evil witches spindle, falls asleep and can only been awoken by the kiss of a stranger.

6.The Witch of Rapunzel
-Another Brothers Grimm tale, its the story of a jealous witch who has imprisoned the lovely Rapunzel in a tower and who uses her hair to climb to the top.

7.Samantha of Bewitched
-The kooky main character of a TV Show that marries a witch and a mortal man and sticks them in the suburbs. Hilarity ensues.

8.The Blair Witch-A fictional legend that apparently runs around the woods of Western Maryland. The legends was turned into a movie that somehow was very popular, though after watching the first 20 minutes, I do not know how.

9.The Witches of "The Craft"
-A teen angst movie from the 90's, about the unpopular girls who actually develop supernatural powers. Somehow, I think it would be dangerous for the cool kids if the nerdy girls get supernatural powers.

10.Eglantine Price of Bedknobs and Broomsticks
-Played by Angela Landsbury, this is a 1970's Disney movie about a witch, her three orphaned nieces and nephews and a magician who travel across Europe on a Magic Bed. Yes, its a Disney Movie.

11.The Wicked Witch of the West
-The villain character in the Wizard of Oz. She is out to steal back the silver/ruby slippers back from Dorothy and will do whatever it takes to get them back, including sending flying monkeys. The Wicked Witch just can't shower. She is also a main character in the Broadway hit & Novel, Wicked.

12.Willow Rosenberg-I guess she is the best known Witch from the Television Series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Since I have never seen a full season of the show, I would be guessing. She is cute though.

13.The Halliwell sisters of Charmed
-The three, then fourth sister when Shannen Doherty left/got fired, that were the heroes of Charmed. They used the power of 3 to make there magic work. They also used the power of skimpy clothing, but that is a story for another Thursday Thirteen.

You just have to wonder

If I could spend my days in a drunken stupor, would it improve things? Or just improve it for myself.

5:45 Edit

yes, I know this is literally a stupid statement to make. Note to self, no blogging when you are feeling a wee bit upset or at least annoyed. Things as always could certainly be worse.

Prairie Home Stalker

I guess you never can tell who is going to catch someones eye, since it seems Garrison Keillor needs a restraining order against a woman in Georgia. I mean, sheesh, he has a nice little voice, but he reads stories and tells anctedotes that are allegedly supposed to be funny. This man is 65 and not exactly a sex symbol. I mean c'mon, look at him.

Though, if the reports are true, I would worry a tad bit about this woman. Nevermind the rambling emails and phone calls, there was also apparently mummified lizard parts sent in the mail as well. I know nothing says I want to sleep with you like mummified lizard parts. And the suspect is not exactly doing a wonder for herself if this quote is her best defense.

Campbell said Keillor had misunderstood the letters, e-mails, packages and phone calls. She said she was never closer to his house than the sidewalk.

Yea, terrific, you have never been closer then the man's sidewalk, great call. Unless you are holding up a boombox over your head when you are standing outside of someones sidewalk, you are probably a stalker, no matter how bad your taste maybe.

Joshua Tree almost old enough to buy beer

Well, at least if the Joshua Tree was a person and not one of those life changing musical albums of my generation (and please don't say generation X).

Thats right, the U2 album, the Joshua Tree has turned 20, which is leading to a digitally remastered re release of the album in November. This is one of those albums, cds, cassettes that you would have worn out if you were at the young and impressional age when it was released the first time. It is being released in 4 versions, including Vinyl, which makes it a dinosaur in its own right, as well as a CD box set that will include a DVD of the Joshua Tree concert stop in Paris, France.

I already know that I am going to be putting that last version on my Christmas list, though I do not know how they can improve on such a magnificent piece of musical art. Beyond the brilliant songs like I still Haven't Found What I am Looking For and Where the Streets have no name, this CD had some gems that did not get as much mainstream airplay, like Red Hill Mining Town and One Tree Hill. Beautiful stuff.

By the way, I linked the videos from YouTube in the post, so if you somehow missed some of those gems, start clicking above.

Of course the only problem with a release and a celebration like this is that it makes me feel more and more ancient.

Late Night Montana Hottie

Going along with the Montana theme of the day, we feature Tera Patrick, a famous Adult Enterntainment Actress born in Great Falls, Montana. She was born in July, 1976 and actually was born with a different name altogether, Linda Ann Hopkins. She is a former Penthouse Pet and is one of those porn stars that you know, even though you don't know who she is by name.

And trust me, it was hard to find pictures with her clothes on.
