Thoughts of Navy, Favre, Liberty Bowl and New Years

Yes indeed folks, a rambling post if I ever saw one....

Watched most of the Navy vs New Mexico game yesterday. 1st off, who knew the weather was that bad in California, raining torrents all day, I thought it was supposed to be the land of sunshine. Anyway, I enjoyed Navy's win, I love option football, they were one of the 1st teams I ever saw in person as a kid and how can u go wrong rooting for a team who is able to drive 96 yards and eat up 12 minutes of clock. Reminded me of the old Madison Central days.

The best game of the week, and possibly the best game of the entire bowl season could be todays contest between Boise and Louisville. It is probably the only game I will TiVo. It will be interesting to see if the combined score between the 2 teams stays below 100, though I am sure the weather may affect that, though I have not actually seen what it will be like. But if you do have time at 3:30 EST, I would highly recomend at least giving it a peek.

Sports question, who is the better QB, Brett Favre or John Elway? discuss and respond.

We have a wedding tonight downtown, which is a nice change from the other things that we usually due on New Years Eve, and since it is for friends that we would usually see tonight, its like a bigger party. So congrats H & V, intials changed to protect the innocent.

Happy New years everyone, bourbon sours for my men, champagne for the ladies!!!

Christmas Recap

Well friends, the invasion from Arizona is over. It went well overall, though I would not call it one of the best holidays I have ever had. My parents, well my father actually, always to have me on edge, maybe its still that little boy trying to prove or please, but I am not a psychiatrist. Anyway, they arrived and left safely, luckily they were not on that nightmare that is US Airways.

1st complaint:it took them 4ever to look at FuW's ring. Usually that is one of the 1st things people look at, but it just seemed to be an after thought.

We did have a nice time walking around the city of Philly the 1st day, especially since it really was not that cold overall. Plus we were able to get FuW's gifts from work home, keeping her from having to deal with Mass transit and shopping bags.

Next day, we got caught in holiday traffic, something that BD just loves, which of course, put me more on edge being the driver. Now to be fair, he was sick, which can make him grumpy, and in general, he is not the best car passenger, something I have known for a while. We did have a nice dinner for his B'day, surprised him with a cake and everything at one of out favorite places, The Buck Hotel.

Christmas eve was awesome, exactly what I had pictured in holiday dreams. A nice sit down dinner with my family, FuW's family. Good food, good drink, a good football game, nice conversation and a warm fire, all anyone could ask for really.

Christmas was very nice as well, but a bit tense again, though I think I was doing alot of it to myself. I got a keyboard, piano lessons to learn to play the keyboard, a sweatshirt that I was dying for and some other fine presents. The Barbie dream house by Dept 56 was a big hit, and naturally, E loved her ipod, though I have not set it up yet. The dinner was stressful, just trying to get everything together on time, so I really do not think I got to enjoy the whole day with the families, but that is to be expected as the chef.

Complaint #2: If one pays for rush delivery, 12 days before Xmas, wouldn't one expect said gift to come before Xmas? Damn You Temple University bookstore!

Finally shipped my folks back on Sunday. I will miss them, honestly, it is also very nice to have a house back. Now I still have to clean it up some!

Scenes from Montgomery Mall

Yesterday, Sey and I went shopping at the Montgomery Mall in some part of PA that is at least near Montgomeryville ( I dont think its in it). Anyway, some scenes were enough to make you say Ho Ho Holy Crap! Not only did we get an excellent price on some gifts, but we also saw a fist fight in clearance, and a woman collapse in the Sweater section and possibly break her elbow. Now how is any of that in the Xmas spirit? Plus, the fist fight, between 2 women! I guess Clearance was a good area to avoid.

Big Doings

A couple of things have happened since I have last graced you with my presence. 1st and foremost, me and the GF are now engaged!! So what do I call her from now on anyway? Anyway, it was a nice quiet thing, I hung the engagement ring on the christmas tree. GF is not the most observant person in the land, so the ring hung there, in the box mind you, for 2 days. I finally broke down from the tension and told her to just LOOK at the tree! She finally saw it and thankfully said yes.

We have also been decorating the house for Christmas. Its the 1st time that I have ever done this, so I was like a kid in a candy store, well not the 1st time for the inside, but the 1st time I have ever had an outside to work with. Its not on the level of Griswald, but the lights do give off some glow, you do notice them when they are gone.

Gotta start shopping this week, at least for the online stuff, so I am not running around like a duck without its head.

Back from a Turkey Coma

Ok, not a turkey coma, more like an avalanche of boxes, but I have returned. And with the lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas tree, it is now officially the holiday season in the Duck Household, though if you listened to some stations in the Philadelphia area since Halloween, its been the Christmas season since the kiddies put there masks away. Big things happening in Little Feasterville, not one of which is the hopeful (fingers crossed) hook up of the DSL line today. One can only hope it goes as smoothly as the cable hookups of the past. Not much else happening here, I am just finishing my vision for the outdoors Christmas decorations, though it will never approach this one fellow I saw on HGTV. Apparently, a family in the New Castle, De area strings up there house with over 1 MILLION Christmas lights. Makes my little snowflakes feel small, but then again, who wants to pay that electric bill?
