I would go for something that is, or can easily be, hosted in your own webspace. That way you can choose a provider that has good, solid uptime and won't screw you over.

I personally love ExpressionEngine, which has a free "core" (lacks a few features, but lets you create and maintain as many blogs as you wish); but if you want to try something hosted for a while, I'd go with Wordpress.com. Then, if you love that software, find a web host (just by coincidence, I can recommend a good one I know very well) and export your Wordpress database to your new host. Et voila.

Laughing Muse gives good advice! I'm getting ready to shift my blog out of blogger in the next couple of months myself...Blogger can really suck.

HOWEVER...good news! You've won! Crazy Train was the ringtone, you clever Duck, you!

I switched from Blogger to Wordpress and have no regrets. It's a little more complicated to use sometimes but it's a lot more reliable. When I want to post something, I want to post it now! LOL!

Three days IS a bit excessive to be having problems, yeah.

I've been contemplating a switch to WordPress for other reasons; might need to bring it up to the Road Crew.
