Poetry Train goes way retro

I do remember this song from its first incarnation. Well, I do remember it from its odd video actually, but then I totally forgot that it was ever put out. Then, I got VH1 Classic and got a renewed appreciation for the talent of Kate Bush. But, my mind is filled musically, so some songs get lost in the deep recesses, or cobwebs take your pick. But, CSI (The original) used it in a promo for the season premiere and I was hooked was again. Beauty in sound and words.

    I LOVE this song. I'm quite certain it's about childbirth.

    This is from the man's point of view as the woman he loves is going through labor and he can do nothing but wait and hope that it all works out. Kate Bush is superb. She was writing such mature lyrics when she hadn't even turned 20 yet. Not this one, but earlier stuff. A big favorite of mine.

    Julia, I don't get the video then. She passes out at dinner(not what I envision going into labor is all about) then he looks like hell when the nurse comes out to talk to him (not the proud papa look, if you ask me).

    I've been a Kate fan forever, and she disappeared after her most successful single (Running Up That Hill) and album (Hounds of Love) to start a family and leave Tori Amos to take all the glory.

    It's a shame we never got to see her here in the states, but she hates flying and just doesn't play out that much.

    I love this song, have it and remember it from the Kevin Bacon movie, She's having a Baby. I just looked it up and the movie is from 1988. The song played during childbirth.
    Orange you glad I came by with that tidbit of trivia.

    BTW- My husband hates Kate Bush's voice.

    It's from "She's Having A Baby" starring Kevin Bacon. When we saw that movie, D watched it and this song came on. And you see Kevin Bacon being escorted from the delivery room as they prepare for an emergency C secton. He sees her life pass before his eyes.

    I started bawling when I heard it, it's about a woman dying in childbirth. "You know you have a little life in you yet."
